The Public Works Department for the Town of Garner is a candidate to work as part of a team of 4 Park Attendants performing various manual and semi-skilled tasks in the care and maintenance of Town parks, restrooms, shelters, playgrounds, sidewalks, and dog parks within the Town of Garner.
This position is a full-time position requiring a flexible schedule to work different shifts including days, evenings, weekends, and Town holidays. The work schedule will include working 4 days per week, 10 hours per day.
This position will be primarily assigned to the evening shift Wednesday to Saturday on Crew 1. The following schedule is for illustrative purposes as the exact schedule may change due to seasonal and/or department needs. Example: Fall and Winter months starting time will gradually change from 11:00 to 9:00am, shift ending time 9:30 to 7:30pm.
Crew 1: Wednesday - Saturday
Morning shift: 5:30 AM - 4:00 PM
Evening shift: 11:00 AM - 9:30 PM
Crew 2: Sunday - Wednesday
Morning shift: 5:30 AM - 4:00 PM
Evening shift: 11:00 AM - 9:30 PM
Examples of Duties:
- Perform general custodial duties on public recreational complexes, athletic facilities, and restrooms. Prompt opening and closing of all park and facility gates and bathrooms.
- Perform a variety of maintenance tasks such as using power hand equipment, repairs to bathroom amenities, and remove leaves and debris from sidewalks on facility grounds.
- Main tasks include picking up trash at all locations; operating equipment; shelter maintenance; custodial duties; playground and dog park maintenance; sidewalk and common area blowing; and any other maintenance in the Parks and Grounds Division.
- Patrolling Town parks to provide a visible authority presence while ensuring park rules are being followed.
- Prepare restrooms for use including cleaning sinks and countertops, toilets, mopping floors, removing webs and dust, and refilling products appropriately.
- Ensure Park shelters are prepared and cleaned for rentals.
- Respond to any calls from residents and other departments within the Town. Assist with delivering items for small scale special events.
- Ability to operate a standard non CDL vehicle.
- Perform related tasks as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Be knowledgeable in the safe use and operation of the equipment to which assigned
- Be able to understand and follow specific oral instructions
- Be able to perform manual labor for extended periods in all weather conditions
- Be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and residents
- Be able to work effectively and independently
- Be able to safely lift 50 lbs.
- Have a valid driver's license and good driving record
- A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
- Prior custodial/janitorial experience is preferred.

- The salary range shown is the hiring range. The starting salary will be determined based on the selected candidate's skills and qualifications.
