Position Title: Food Service Head Kitchen/Breakfast Manager
Location: Howell High School
Reports To: Food Service Director and/or Principal/Assistant Principal
Status: Ten (10) month position
Work year: First day of school for students - Last day of school for students (Additional days at the beginning and
Days/Hours: 1 hr/day Breakfast; 7 hrs/day Lunch; 6:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
SUMMARY:
The Head Kitchen/Breakfast Manager provides support in our student nutrition program by working in our school cafeterias by preparing and serving food, cleaning and sanitizing all items and areas within the department, handling food purchase transactions, all while providing excellent customer service to staff and students.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Daily: Count drawers for breakfast. Put in registers 1 & 4 at 6:30 a.m. Help set up breakfast line. Run register at 7:15 a.m. for breakfast. At end of breakfast, cash-out drawers and take to office. Pan up donuts and churros, if needed Serve first lunch on Picantes Station. Stay out during lunch to ensure all stations are running smoothly, correct portions are being served and all lunch lines are being restocked. Fill in where needed.
1. Responsible to the Food Service Supervisor for the general supervision of the kitchen. Carries out policies and procedures.
2. Responsible for checking production records on a daily basis to make sure they are filled out correctly and completely. File production records by date.
3. Perform cash out procedures if on a register.
4. Maintain confidentiality regarding student accounts
5. Keep computer, monitor, monitor station, cords and mouse clean, sanitized and free of dust in your office. Do not use too much liquid to clean it.
6. Keep office desk clean and free of dust.
7. Order food for High School and outside schools and hot entrees for satellite schools. GFS orders due by 1:00 p.m. Monday and Thursday.
8. Responsible for the overall operation and supervision of: All food meal areas at the High School and meals to nine schools plus outer schools.
9. Make sure all staff are following their job descriptions and have current job descriptions. Do not change job descriptions without approval from Food Service Director. You may change around positions due to absences.
10. Send employee subbing or filling in for another position to Secretary to get the job description
11. Responsible for storage inventory kept at adequate inventory. Make sure storage areas are kept clean, rotated and organized.
12. Responsible for approving all High School time sheets bi-weekly, returning any changes, signing that you have checked them and they are correct. Turn them in to the secretary every other week.
13. Return empty cans to grocery store
14. Getting food orders for all schools to them due to not needing full case or mistake in ordering
15. Responsible for receiving food and supplies and helping put them away on a First in First Out Rotation
16. Turn invoices into Food Service Office within 24 hours of receiving delivery
17. Report any repairs to be made to Food Service Director & fill out a work order
18. Directs the preparation of the main entrees
19. Maintains sanitation standards for workers in the kitchen, serving area, bathroom, cooler, freezers and storage areas
20. Responsible for the care and overseeing the repairs of the transport carts
21. Call in subs for all of the Food Service Department.
22. Training of High School Staff and subs.
23. Keep Food Service Supervisor informed of any employee problems.
24. Helps promote school breakfast and lunch.
25. Train staff how to use the production record, make sure portions are correct according to the production records.
26. Keep supplies and cost down.
27. Control waste and quality of the food.
28. Pulls any product in advance from freezer if thawing is required.
29. Order bread and ice cream for high school, elementary, secondary and out schools.
30. Responsible for calling head school manager when staff is ill and calling staff to move up. 31. Must be able to lift 25 lbs. waist high.
32. Attend monthly manager meetings.
33. Any other duties assigned by the Food Service Supervisor.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma (or equivalent); and must pass a basic math skills test.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
- Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written English language;
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions;
- Ability to work with the general public and students.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
- Basic computer skills.
QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS:
- Ability to perform duties with awareness of District requirements and Board policies / administrative guidelines;
- Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to communicate effectively, speaking clearly and communicating thoughts succinctly;
- Ability to react well under pressure, handle and balance multiple demands at one time, work with frequent interruptions and perform duties and tasks at expected levels of professionalism with minimal supervision;
- Accurate and detail oriented; and
- Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, parents, teachers, administration and the school community.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to coordinate hands, eyes, feet and limbs in performing semi-skilled movements such as cooking, washing dishes and operation of a computer keyboard, cash register, and telephone. The employee is required to be on his/her feet walking around the cafeteria and food service department building for several hours at a time. The employee is required to exert physical effort in work involving lifting, carrying, pushing, walking, standing, reaching with hands and arms, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds from floor to waist height. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus.
ENVIRONMENTAL ADAPTABILITY:
The work environment characteristics described herein are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The work environment is normally indoors with controlled climate conditions. Occasionally the employee may be required to be outdoors for a short period of time, and therefore subject to varying weather conditions, for purposes of accomplishing the essential functions of this job. This position requires the employee to work in different building cafeteria and food service departments as needed. The ability to travel via employee’s automobile between buildings is required.
