Your Role as an Occupational Therapist

  • Provide Individual & Group Therapy – Deliver occupational therapy services to students, addressing specific sensory motor, integrative dysfunction, and social/emotional challenges to improve their ability to learn and engage.
  • Conduct Evaluations & Assessments – Administer initial evaluations and assessments to determine each student’s level of function and inform treatment planning.
  • Document Student Needs & Progress – Prepare written reports identifying students’ needs and outlining proposed treatment strategies, goals, and objectives; maintain accurate progress records and write daily session notes, biannual progress reports, and initial evaluations.
  • Collaborate Across Teams – Partner with staff to develop, analyze, and prepare reports, sensory diets (both classroom and individual), and in-service assignments that support students’ development.
  • Support Team Education & Implementation – Provide education and guidance to team members on the facilitation of implemented occupational therapy techniques or modalities.
  • Monitor & Adapt Therapy Programs – Work with therapy and educational staff to incorporate appropriate occupational therapy strategies into instruction; evaluate the effectiveness of established programs and make modifications as needed within the OT framework.
  • Engage in Professional Development – Maintain professional competence by attending staff development programs, continuing education sessions, and weekly Greenspan meetings, team meetings, and staff trainings.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree or Doctoral Degree in Occupational Therapy
  • License to practice Occupational Therapy in New York State
  • Experience in Pediatrics preferred
  • Knowledge of DIR/Floortime is preferred, but not required
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships with students, staff, and parents
