Position Summary:
The Aquatics Coordinator is responsible for maintaining the highest level of safety and swimming conditions for all patrons in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas; first, by preventing accidents and second, by responding to an emergency quickly and efficiently. In addition, this individual is responsible for preparing and administering departmental budget with the lead of the Aquatics Director, coordinating swim lessons, as well as developing new programs.
Essential Functions / Job Duties:
• Supervises, leads, and manages Aquatics Programs, Staff and Safety on the pool deck.
• Ensures that enrollment and program quality benchmarks are met by marketing and promoting the Aquatics Program.
• Ensures that the Aquatics program follows the program standards, policies, and guidelines of the YMCA of South Florida as well as state and local codes.
• Trains staff on accident prevention through safety checks, rule enforcement, and proper guarding techniques, and emergency management including proper water rescue, CPR and first aid procedures.
• Controls the annual income and expenses for the budget in the Aquatics Department.
• Coordinates schedules of participants for each season and class.
• Ensures that Safety and Risk Management policy and procedures are followed; maintains accident reports, records of equipment and safety inspections.
• Uses preventive life guarding techniques to minimize or eliminate hazardous situations.
• Applies rules and policies of the YMCA of South Florida.
• Conveys information on programs and schedules to members.
• Maintains accurate records required by YMCA and state agencies.
• Maintains the pool and pool area, cleaning.
• Maintains records of pool chemical readings, adding chemicals to poof is necessary. Takes pool attendance and maintains related records as required.
• Supervises lifeguards during their shifts. Rotating guards, schedules break and determining hours when appropriate based on pool usage and the need for additional guards.
• Other duties as assigned based on family center requirements or needs.

Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities / Position Requirements:
• High School Diploma or GED
• Minimum of 1-3 years of Aquatics program / Lifeguarding experience.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel, as well as Daxko software program, preferred.
• Must be organized and detail oriented.
• Bilingual, English and Spanish, a plus.
• Certified Pool Operator and Swim Instructor Certified, preferred.
• CPR for the Professional Rescuer; AED; Basic First Aid Certifications
• Current Certification: Red Cross Lifeguarding OR YMCA Lifeguarding Certification
• Ability to maintain certification level of physical and mental alertness.
Ongoing Requirements
• Attainment of Oxygen Certification within 90 days of hire. (Summer staff must receive before June 30)
• Attainment of CPO Certification within one year of hire.
