What does a Lifeguard do?
- Maintain constant surveillance of water and pool deck areas by 10-10 scanning
- Assist swimmers in distress
- Provide emergency medical assistance as trained to any person on the YMCA premise as
- Necessary
- Provide support to swim lessons and aquatic programs instructors
- Take and record chemical readings set forth by branch
- Know and operate pool equipment as required (i.e. lane lines, chair lift)
- Enforce and educate members about aquatic rules and procedures set forth by branch
- Provides exceptional customer service and fosters connections with members
- Participating and satisfactory completion of in-service trainings

Qualifications
- Must be at least 16 years old
- Ability to obtain a criminal record clearance, if over 18 years of age
- High School Diploma or equivalent; valid work permit required if a minor
- Previous work experience preferred
- Must be able to complete YMCA swim test and pass entry written test
- Possess a basic-level Lifeguarding (Including Deep Water) certification from one of the following organizations: Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard, YMCA, Ellis & Associates International Lifeguard Training Program™, Boy Scouts of America (BSA), StarGuard ELITE, United States Lifesaving Association (USLA). Ability to transition to Red Cross certification within 90 days
- Complete required certifications within 60 days of hire
- Complete all required Branch and Position specific trainings as required within two weeks of hire
