The purpose of this position is to assist the Live Haul Manager as necessary, in daily operations, at various farm locations, while demonstrating employee safety, and ensuring proper communications between the crews and Live Haul Manager.
ESSENTIAL POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensures operations run efficiently. Oversees Live Haul Team members. Ensures catch crew team members are following animal welfare and BioSecurity guidelines. Takes appropriate action if performance is not being met. Observes and is involved with birds being loaded, checks for pile ups and keeps birds stirring. Reports incidents and/or any type of damage or accidents to the Live Haul Manager. Communicates with the grower, represents the live haul team on the farms with dignity and respect. Prepares farm house for catchers to start loading birds.
Prior to start, check each house to verify all dead birds have been removed by the grower for the catchers.
Promotes a safe work environment. Fosters a safe work environment by ensuring it meets all safety requirements. Conducts safety meetings and training in collaboration with the Live Haul Manager. Ensures operations are carried in compliance with all policies and procedures set forth by Simmons, OSHA, DOT, and various government agencies concerning safety and the handling of live birds.
Participates as a member of the Team. Participates in ongoing development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs and policies; coordinates work to ensure best practices with all team members. Attends appropriate team meetings. As a member of the Team, fosters strong cohesiveness regarding all major issues, etc. Accepts responsibility to quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the Live Haul Manager while working with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues and actively look for ways, and reinforces actions needed, to achieve synergy possible within the larger organization.

Physical Activities: Enters and locates information on a computer. Visually verifies information, often in small print. Must be able to work in cramped, enclosed, elevated, wet, dirty areas with a noise level above 85 decibels. Must be able to work in entire temperature extremes. Must be able to work on feet for the entire shift, manually lifting or moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
Travel: Travel as necessary.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Will use appropriate footwear, hearing protection and other protective equipment as needed or required.
Technical Experience: Must be able to read, write and perform basic math. Must have a working knowledge of computers.
Industry Experience: Preference for poultry live haul experience.
