Job Summary: This position works under the direction of the Head Coach in providing direction to student-athletes so that they might achieve a high level of skill as well as an appreciation for discipline, sportsmanship, and teamwork. To value and promote the worth of each participant while effectively leading players and staff to achieve their individual and collective potential. The work assists the superintendent toward the accomplishment of the mission of the Woodland Public Schools of preparing students for career, life, and college so that they can become responsible and compassionate citizens. Work is performed under the direction of the Head Coach, Principal, and Athletic Director.

Qualifications:

• Twenty-one years old
• Must pass a background check
• Current Red Cross First Aid/CPR Card
• Must take WIAA online courses and complete WSD head coach checklists
• Must be current with WIAA coaching clock hours
• Be able to pass a screening test to provide transportation for student-athletes
• Regular and punctual attendance to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position to achieve program requirements
• Previous coaching experience preferred
• Bilingual preferred

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Become familiar with and promote the core values of the school’s Athletic Program
• Serve as a positive role model for students
• Responsible for assisting the head coach in planning, organizing, and delivering an appropriate range of sports activities and programmes for the team
• Assist the head coach at all practices
• Assist the head coach in organizing and coaching all games
• Assist with sports promotion and development
• Work to be an effective team member
• Assist with game day preparation
• Ensure that student-athletes adhere to training rules, lettering policies, grade requirements, and rules of behavior
• Ensure the continual supervision of student-athletes on the field, in conditioning, and in locker and shower rooms
• Ensure that health and safety precautions are observed during all activities
• Immediately report all major injuries incurred during practice sessions or competition to the Head Coach, Athletic Director, and Principal.
• Learn techniques, skills, philosophy, rules, and strategies
• Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and talk or hear, and sometimes walk and sit.   Occasionally, the employee will bend or twist at the neck more than the average person. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 50 lbs.  The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well-being, or work output of other people. Requires some travel. 
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.   
 
Work Environment:
The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud. Work is predominantly in athletic rooms and outside on the athletic fields. Temperature – normal climate, occasional adverse weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud.
