Role: The Security Specialist is responsible for administration of the ORNL Federal Credit Union security program, providing for the safety and protection of credit union employees, members, and assets.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • Implements and makes recommendations for the overall physical security program to ensure adequate controls and procedures are in place at all times for the safety and protection of members, employees and assets. Responds appropriately to security incidents. Prepares a Security Report for the Board of Directors annually.
  • Practices critical thinking skills while managing physical security equipment and physical security vendor relationships for all credit union affiliated locations. Maintains equipment by ensuring the completion of installation, required testing, preventative maintenance, operation, and repair or replacement of failed equipment. Conducts security inspections at each credit union facility annually. Maintains records of alarms, equipment, inspections and other information as required.
  • Controls and restricts access to all credit union properties and non public areas within those locations through various means including, but not limited to, badging systems, assignment of keys, and enforcement of physical security procedures including requiring employee dual control when appropriate. Develops, monitors and enforces emergency plans and building access controls and serves as the conduit to physical security vendors.
  • Assists management with vendor quality control; including accurate billing, service standards and competitive pricing for physical security services and products. Analyzes and determines the accuracy of security invoices for all credit union facilities and prepares requisitions for payments. Works with physical security vendors to resolve any errors or issues.
  • Ensures all employees and departments are aware of security policies and procedures. Provides education to credit union employees; ensuring they are able to identify and respond appropriately to potential physical security situations.
  • Maintains confidentiality while conducting investigations for management. Maintains Security Incident Reports on all security related incidents.
  • Stays abreast of industry best practices. Seeks new technology and methods to keep the physical security program updated through cost effective solutions. Makes effective recommendations for physical security process and equipment improvement.
  • Maintains strong relationships with employees, security vendors and professionals, and law enforcement for the benefit of the security program. Acts as liaison with law enforcement for security incidents, including workplace violence, employee situations, and robberies.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned, including planning and conducting drills at credit union facilities that require drills based on occupancy and/or local laws.

Experience: One or more years of experience in corporate institution security required. Must have a general knowledge of financial institution security procedures and protocols.

Education: Associate's degree in a business-related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Bachelor's degree in a business-related field is preferred.
