Overview

The Nurse Informatics Specialist serves as a vital bridge between clinical practice and technology, driving improvements in patient outcomes, workflow efficiency, and regulatory compliance. This role leads the organization’s electronic medical record (EMR) transition from MatrixCare to PointClickCare (PCC), providing strategic oversight, optimization, and education related to clinical information systems.

Working in close collaboration with nursing, clinical, and IT teams, the Nurse Informatics Specialist evaluates, plans, and implements technology solutions that support high-quality resident care across all service areas, including skilled nursing, assisted living, long-term care, and other programs within Duncaster.

Essential Functions

  • Leads the transition from MatrixCare to PointClickCare (PCC) as primary liaison and project lead.
  • Collaborates with clinical, IT, and vendor teams to align PCC functionality with standardized workflows.
  • Oversees data migration, validation, testing, and staff readiness to ensure successful go-live and post-live support.
  • Designs and implements training plans and educational resources to optimize PCC adoption.
  • Provides ongoing support for clinical information systems across EMR, Pharmacy, Nursing, Rehab, and Social Services.
  • Integrates clinical, computer, and information sciences to enhance data management and communication.
  • Partners with clinicians to identify system enhancements that improve care delivery.
  • Leads planning and evaluation of clinical system solutions based on departmental needs.
  • Assesses workflows and facilitates system modifications to improve efficiency and meet operational goals.
  • Manages data reporting and analysis to support performance improvement and decision-making.
  • Develops action plans to ensure data integrity, user accuracy, and system reliability.
  • Collaborates with software and data science teams to implement predictive analytics for clinical decision support.
  • Educates staff on system use, documentation standards, and data security protocols.
  • Provides hands-on support and troubleshooting for clinical system users.
  • Delivers strategic leadership for technology initiatives that enhance patient care and clinician access.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Current and active Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing Informatics, Health Informatics, or related field is required.
  • 2 years of clinical nursing experience in long-term care, assisted living, or skilled nursing is required.
  • 1 year of experience in health informatics, EMR optimization, or clinical systems management is required.
  • Experience with MatrixCare and/or PointClickCare; EMR implementation leadership is strongly desired.
  • Strong understanding of clinical workflows, regulatory requirements, and quality metrics in post-acute care.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, leadership, and change management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; certifications such as Nursing Informatics (ANCC) is preferred.

Environment and Working Conditions

  • Ability to focus on task needs and perform intellectual executive functions as related to the functions of the business operation.
  • Ability to execute intellectual tasks and duties under conditions of high demand and distraction.
  • Ability to complete the essential functions of the position with or with adaptive personal devices (e.g., hearing aid, corrective lenses).
  • Ability to operate equipment and technology required for the position.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively.
  • Able to assist with the evacuation of residents under emergency status to the best of their physical ability.
  • Able to function independently with integrity and work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies. 
  • Able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
  • Able to occasionally push and/or pull a force of up to 7 pounds as relates to file cart.
  • Able to reach overhead, bend, and occasionally carry or lift up to 25 pounds.


Hours

Full-time, 40 hours per week - Flexible Schedule

Pay

Starting at $100,000.00 annually
