TITLE:  FOOD SERVICE/UTILITY WORKER

 

DESCRIPTION OF BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Under supervision of the Director of Maintenance, Operations and Transportation, performs a variety of general cleaning task and/or assist in the preparation and serving of food in an assigned school, perform routine grounds maintenance and gardening work. Will provide students and staff with safe, attractive, comfortable and clean educational environment

 

TYPICAL DUTIES:

 

The following duties are typical of the positions in this class collectively, but no one position would not normally include all of these duties nor is any one position necessarily limited to any one of these duties.

?       Participates in preparation and serving of school lunches, component menu items, and other foods

?       Maintains satisfactory performance standards in food preparation techniques, service and clean-up:

?       Participates in cleaning, storing, receiving and stocking cafeteria equipment, food and supplies

?       Performs variety of custodial duties at assigned site; normally assigned as sole custodial staff on daytime schedule; may be assigned split shifts or other flexible schedules as needed

?       Follows written schedule in performing custodial functions at assigned sites; cleans classrooms, offices, rest rooms, kitchens, cafeterias and other site facilities; operates cleaning equipment including but not limited to vacuums, buffer, floor cleaning and polishing machines, gasoline blower, etc.

?       Sweeps, scrubs, strips, seals, disinfects, mops, waxes and polishes floors

?       Cleans and vacuums carpets

?       Dusts, cleans and polishes furniture

?       Cleans walls, ceilings, windows, woodwork, chalkboards and equipment

?       Cleans and disinfects drinking fountains, telephones, trash cans, rest rooms and kitchen areas

?       Dusts light fixtures, furnaces, ledges; empties trash receptacles and pencil sharpeners; stocks and replaces towel and soap dispensers

?       Replaces lights and batteries; sets clocks; resets fire alarms and bell systems

?       Picks up paper, glass and debris; cleans, rakes, sweeps, waters grounds; checks sprinkling systems; sprays pesticides; removes graffiti

?       Sets up, moves and adjusts furniture and equipment as needed; sets up and operates sound equipment

?       Responds to emergency cleanups; makes minor repairs as needed; observes and reports maintenance needs

?       Locks and unlocks doors and gates to ensure security of buildings and grounds; turns main water, power and gas lines on and off as necessary; may respond to emergency calls as needed

?       Cares for and displays flags

?       Organizes storage areas, orders supplies and maintains inventory as needed

?       Performs other related duties as assigned

2  Ability to lift 70 lbs.

2  Ability to carry 70 lbs.

4  Ability to reach in all directions.

4  Ability to work at heights.

3  Ability to ascend and descend a ladder.

4  Ability to use all gardening tools such as shovels, picks, hoes, weeding, blower.                     

4  Ability to work in the elements (extreme temperatures).

 

 

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Salary and work year to be according to current schedule

 

EVALUATION:

According to Board Policies and Procedures and consistent with collective bargaining agreements when applicable.

 

 

Requirements / Qualifications

Valid Food Handlers Certificate Valid Class C California Driver License Safe driving record that meets the County Office of Education's insurance requirements Three letters of recommendations

Salary Info

Starting $16.89 hourly rate in 12 steps. Position to be renewed annually contingent upon availability of program funds. Placement on the salary schedule will be commensurate with experience and qualifications, as determined by the District Superintendent.
