POSITION SUMMARY
The ideal candidate will provide mid-level systems engineering support for Unmanned Maritime Systems (UMS) programs at Naval Surface Warfare Center Panama City Division. Support comprehensive systems engineering activities across the complete development lifecycle for critical Navy mine countermeasure platforms including Unmanned Undersea Vehicles (UUVs) and Unmanned Surface Vehicles (USVs). Contribute to research and development initiatives, test and evaluation operations, and In-Service Engineering Agent (ISEA) activities for UMS programs including AQS-20, Knifefish, Mine Hunting Units (MHUs), MCM USV, UISS, and MK 18 systems.
Responsibilities
- Perform research and development tasks, including engineering analyses, trade studies, component/subsystem testing, and modeling and simulation using Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools such as MagicDraw.
- Support systems engineering activities, including risk management, interface documentation, engineering design reviews, and program document development (SEP, TEMP, CM Plans).
- Review engineering designs, drawings, and Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs) for impact on system design, safety, and performance; support Operational Risk Management (ORM) assessments.
- Provide Test and Evaluation (T&E) support, including crew positions, test platform configuration, mission debriefs, and development of test documentation (briefs, Test Logs, Mission Summaries).
- Conduct Post-Mission Analysis (PMA) and mission planning using Mine Warfare and Environmental Decision Aids Library (MEDAL) for test events.
- Analyze operational and maintenance data to identify design defects; recommend corrections and improvements; develop engineering changes for performance, reliability, cost, safety, and logistics impacts.
- Support hardware prototype development, test sensor integration, and sensor/payload system integration for UMS platforms.
- Assist with root cause and failure analyses; support development of White Papers, trade-off studies, and engineering investigation reports.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline
- 3+ years of professional experience in systems engineering
- Knowledge of systems engineering principles including requirements analysis, system validation/verification, and integration
- Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools, particularly MagicDraw
- Knowledge of Test and Evaluation (T&E) procedures, test documentation, and Post-Mission Analysis (PMA)/MEDAL systems
- Experience with risk management, engineering design reviews, and Engineering Change Proposal (ECP) processes
- Familiarity with Naval program documentation (SEP, TEMP, CM Plans) and Operational Risk Management (ORM)
- Experience analyzing operational/maintenance data to identify design defects and recommend improvements
- SECRET security clearance
