Job Duties/Essential Functions
- Job Duties
- Participates in development of department projects and special events
- Maintains an awareness of new trends in the field of fitness as well as knowledge of proper usage of weight training and cardiovascular equipment.
- Assists in membership retention by providing excellent customer service and developing a strong rapport with clients.
- Assists in membership satisfaction by providing assistance when needed
- Identifies special needs based on patient age, physical limitation, or other factors and able to develop an exercise plan.
- Monitors the workout area
- Teaches group fitness classes safely and effectively, following safe practice guidelines
- Assists with potential membership information and tours as well as sign ups
- Performs equipment cleaning and maintenance
- Follows Mercy's safety guidelines, carries out job-specific safety duties and responsibilities, and promptly reports any unsafe conditions, situations, incidents and injuries.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to coordinate the activities of fitness and wellness programs required.
- Ability to teach the same class repeatedly in a self-confident, enthusiastic manner required.
Professional Experience
- Working knowledge of principles of program coordination, fitness and wellness, and safe exercise techniques is required.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree with college course work in wellness, exercise physiology, recreation or a related field is preferred.
Licensure, Certification, Registration
- Current certification or willingness to obtain in 90 days for BCLS and AED.
- Certification through NSCA, ACSM, AFAA, IDEA, or NDEITA is preferred.
