The Senior Director, Head of Contracts and Pricing will lead the Contract Management team responsible for the development, execution, and oversight of U.S. Market Access agreements across the portfolio. This role ensures that all contracts with health insurance providers, payers, and other stakeholders align with business objectives, legal and compliance standards, and operational capabilities.
Based in Boston, this position reports to the Vice President, US Head of Market Access and Patient Services, and plays a critical role in shaping and executing the contracting strategy in a dynamic and evolving healthcare environment.
Essential Functions
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the Contract Review Committee to ensure alignment of payer and managed care contracts with business, legal, and operational standards.
- Oversee the development, negotiation, and execution of U.S. Market Access contracts, including commercial and government payer agreements.
- Provide strategic guidance on contract terms, pricing strategies, and implications for gross-to-net (GTN), accruals, and revenue forecasting.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Legal, Market Access, Finance, and Channel Strategy teams to ensure contract compliance and operational readiness.
- Develop and maintain a robust contract tracking and reporting system to monitor key terms, obligations, and performance metrics.
- Present strategic insights and contracting scenarios to senior leadership, offering alternative solutions to complex challenges.
- Ensure all documentation and processes meet internal audit, legal, and regulatory requirements.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on pharmaceutical contracting, government pricing implications, and access strategy throughout the product lifecycle.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing contract operations team.
- Lead relationships with external vendors supporting revenue management services, with strong familiarity in relevant software platforms and tools.
Essential Skills/Experience
- Proven experience leading Market Access or Contract Operations teams.
- Deep understanding of U.S. payer landscape, specialty medicines, and government pricing regulations.
- Strong project management skills and ability to lead cross-functional initiatives.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook); experience with contract management systems is a plus.
- Ability to travel up to 20%.
Desirable Skills/Experience
- Experience launching new products or indications in specialty or rare disease markets.
- Familiarity with GTN forecasting and revenue management processes.
- Demonstrated ability to operate in a fast-paced, matrixed environment.
- Strong business acumen and strategic thinking capabilities.
Minimum Education, Knowledge, Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; MBA, MPH, or other advanced degree preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in U.S. pharmaceutical or biotech contract management, with a focus on Market Access.
- Experience in leading high-performance teams.
- Demonstrated ability to operate cross-functionally and build relationships with internal and external customers.
- Excellent communication: verbal, written and oral.
- Excellent coaching and presentation skills.
- Must be proficient in MS Office including Excel and PowerPoint as well as latest technological advances in software
- Must be able to travel.
