Job Summary
Engineering Interns are member of the Market Development and Engineering Team. Interns 1 and 2 are part time positions for 16 to 20 hr/week – 3 to 4 month assignment. It could be attractive for 1st to 2nd year student from a technical discipline leading to a Bachelor’s degree looking for some work experience after school. It is expected that the student will be on site about twice a week and perform some of the work at home or in school through the intranet.
- Intern 1 is candidate position for the company’s Intern 2 Position, upon successful completion of the 3-4 months assignment.
- Intern 2 is a candidate position for Intern 3 Position below. Candidates will prior technical work experience and 2+ years of schooling can be hired directly as Intern 2.
- Engineering Intern 3 (Temporary Full Time) is the 4 month Co-op or Summer Term for a student in his 3rd or 4th year. Depending on the need of the company. This could be a candidate position for a junior Development Engineer and/or Facility Process Engineer. The Ideal Candidate would have completed The Gund Company Engineering Intern 1 and/or 2 program.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
Level 1
- Support the Engineering Team in the completion of Engineering Projects
- Support the creation of sketches and drawings
- Support the creation of work Instructions, graphical Instructions
- Learn about TGC’s markets, products and processes
- Acquire TGC culture of taking care of customers, each other and the company
Level 2 Additions
- Assist with Customer Qualifications and Approvals of new products including regulatory and standards compliance issues
Level 3 Additions
- Support Sales Team and Development Engineer on the project charter development and approval processes.
- Assist in the design of products and processes that meet or exceed our customer’s requirements.
- Participate with the TGC engineering team and liaise with UL, NEMA, IEC, IEEE, and other industry associations
- Support the creation of Technical Data Sheets, White Papers, E-Mailers in order to promote new TGC materials or material expertise.
- Assist with technical training documents for TGC materials and processes to further educate our sales and manufacturing associates.
Other Duties as Needed:
Level 1
- Assist with Process Engineering/QA related activities such materials and components inspections
Levels 2 and 3 Additions
- Assist with Process Engineering/QA related activities such as FMEA’s, control plans, customer complaints and corrective/preventive actions, kaizen events, etc.
- Assist with the implementation of new manufacturing processes
Requirements
Experience and Skills Requirements:
Levels 1 and 2
- 1st to 2nd year in Engineering, Materials Science, or related field.
- CAD/CAM experience a plus
- Ability to read, write and speak English. Other language skills helpful, i.e. Chinese, Spanish
- Ability to communicate well with all levels of the organization
- Good information systems skills such as Microsoft Office software
- Problem solving skills with people, processes and equipment
- Some part time work and/or volunteer experience
Level 3 Additions
- 3rd or final year in Engineering, Materials Science, or related field
- Engineering Internship Experience at TGC or other companies
- ERP and Project management software experience a plus
- Product design and development, customer and compliance agency liaison experience a plus
- Plastic and/or composites processing experience a plus.
- Machine shop experience a plus
- Ability to communicate and provide product training to sales and service, marketing team a plus

Work Environment
The work environment is typical of most office environments; occasionally, the position will be required to be on the manufacturing floor. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
