THE POSITION
The Facilities Maintenance Worker performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance, repair, and improvement of City-owned buildings and facilities. Working under general supervision, this role is responsible for the maintenance across multiple trades, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and locksmithing. Duties include routine inspections, preventive maintenance, responding to service requests, and ensuring that public spaces remain safe, functional, and welcoming. The position requires technical proficiency, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of safety and efficiency in all work performed.

IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate for the Facilities Maintenance Worker role is a dependable, hands-on professional with broad experience in building maintenance and repair across multiple trades. They are skilled in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and general construction, and take pride in maintaining safe, clean, and functional public facilities. This candidate thrives in a team-oriented environment, responds effectively to service requests and emergencies, and demonstrates a strong commitment to quality workmanship and public service.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is graduation from graduation from high school, or G.E.D. equivalent; and a minimum of two years of experience in the use of hand and power tools, equipment and machinery associated with the construction, mechanical, electrical or building trades; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Facilities Maintenance Worker is the entry-level class in the facilities maintenance class series. Incum­bents perform a variety of duties in the maintenance and repair of City buildings and facilities.

Facilities Maintenance Worker is distinguished from Lead Facilities Maintenance Worker in that an incumbent in the latter class is responsible for providing lead work direction and participating in the work of staff engaged in the construction, maintenance, and repair of City-owned buildings and facilities.
