Job Summary:

Responsible for assisting medical providers in providing health care services to patients.

Internal: The Certified Medical Assistant role works directly with medical providers and clinic staff as well as collaborating with HSNT medical case managers and other client services staff to maintain client-focused continuum of care and services.

External: The Certified Medical Assistant role within the community is to represent HSNT. Client confidentiality, professionalism, acceptance, and respect for various ethnic and cultural background as well as appropriate and effective communication skills are paramount for these positions when approaching the public.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Welcomes and escorts patients to exam rooms, measure vitals, including weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and document all information in patient’s Electronic Medical Record.
  • Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; reviewing and/or recording medical history; confirming purpose of visit or treatment.
  • Assists with procedures and arranging examining room instruments, supplies, and equipment as needed.
  • Supports patient care delivery by helping health care providers during examinations, preparing laboratory specimens, performing basic laboratory tests on the premises, disposing of contaminated supplies, sterilizing medical instruments, administering medications on the premises, authorizing drug refills as directed, telephoning prescriptions to pharmacies, drawing blood, taking electrocardiograms, removing sutures, changing dressings, and coordinating referrals.
  • Triages phone calls, messages while providing feedback and answers to patients, medical staff, and outside referral sources.
  • Maintain client records in compliance with HIPAA and agency standards. Procure medical records for clients from outside facilities as needed.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory of medical supplies in practice sites; clean and stock treatment rooms, and report needs to Lead nurses and Clinical Nurse Manager.
  • Maintain adequate lab supplies and equipment to provide uninterrupted primary care, when appropriate.
  • Must be available and support a flexible patient schedule as well as provide medical support services at any assigned HSNT medical care location.
  • Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following and enforcing standards and procedures while ensuring compliance with legal regulations.
  • Serves and protects the physician or health care provider practice by adhering to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations as needed or available.
  • Enhances health care practice reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests, exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the LVN Lead.
  • Regular in-person attendance is required as an essential function for this position.
  • Must have the ability to work efficiently under stressful conditions and or environment in a timely manner.
