About the Department

Skilled technical position that involves analyzing, summarizing, and generating organized computer data to assist in reducing, solving and preventing crimes based on probability and correlation of events and data. Requires the ability to think analytically, multi-task and be self-motivated.

Position Duties

A. Abide by the "Law Enforcement Code of Ethics." 
B. Reviews and evaluates case reports, suspicious persons and vehicle reports, and other raw data for crime analysis. 
C. Distributes identified trends for review. 
D. Prepares maps and charts as needed. 
E. Assist divisions within the Agency on investigations by coordinating information and efforts. 
F. Compiles and produces intelligence bulletins as directed. 
G. Continually assesses and develops crime analysis programs. 
H. Be alert for conditions or situations which inhibit efficient operation of the Agency, or Crime Analysis and make recommendations for solutions. 
I. Attend Intelligence/Crime Analysis meetings and training, as required. 
J. Perform any additional duties that may be required by the Sheriff or his/her designee through necessity of situations. 
K. May be requested or subpoenaed to testify in criminal, civil, and administrative proceedings. 
L. Attends case or staff meetings to exchange information; attends in-service training and technical or professional classes, seminars, or conferences to improve technical or professional skills. 
M. Performs administrative functions such as recording statistical information, compiling reports, and spreadsheets, performing specialized studies, coordinating with other agencies or the public, and maintains dissemination logs and forms. 
N. Performs routine office tasks, such as typing, filing, faxing, phoning, and copying. 
O. Receive telephone calls and visitors and assist the public with information, as necessary. 
P. Overtime work may be required due to the time sensitive nature of the work performed. 
Q. Ability to work with and maintain sensitive, confidential, or restricted information. 
R. Perform other related duties, as assigned, including modified schedule or temporary re-assignment during declared emergency or activations, as determined by the Sheriff.

Minimum Qualifications

JOB PREREQUISITES

A. High School Diploma or GED 
B. Must be able to become NCIC/FCIC certified within six (6) months of employment. 
C. Extensive knowledge of the proper methods of intelligence information gathering. 
D. Knowledge of MS Office suite, especially Excel and Access. 
E. Knowledge of ARC GIS mapping or other similar crime and incident mapping systems. 
F. Ability to work independently in carrying out assignments to completion. 
G. Ability to make decisions based on factual data. 
H. Ability to present ideas clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing. 
I. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and interagency personnel. 
J. Ability to work comfortably in a computer intensive environment. 
K. Ability to handle highly sensitive information without compromising confidentiality 

Other Qualifications

PHYSICAL AND DEXTERITY REQUIREMENTS: ADA 
Ability to stand for extended periods of time. 
See and hear at normal range. 
Requires the ability to sit at a desk and view a display screen for extended periods of time, the ability to lift, carry, push, or pull items up to (10) pounds, routine keyboarding operations. 
Speak, read, write, and understand English fluently. 
Ambulate independently. 
Lift/carry 50 pounds. 
Bend and squat. 
Manual dexterity. 

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Indoor and outdoor environment, and employee may work extended and/or irregular hours. Position may occasionally travel to other locations within and outside County areas. Position will come in contact with very sensitive material. Position may experience cross examination in court and other criminal hearings. 

Environmental hazards: The job requires inside and outside work; ability to tolerate inclement weather. Possible exposure to hazardous materials and conditions and or exposure to office related dust, fumes, and odors.
