This position will be based in our West Hartford, CT office. We offer a hybrid work schedule with 4 days in the office; and 1 day remote where it makes sense to do so.

Responsibilities:The Underwriting Analyst is an entry-level position designed for individuals seeking to build a career in medical stop loss insurance underwriting. This role provides foundational exposure to underwriting principles, risk assessment, and policy evaluation. The analyst supports the underwriting team by gathering data, performing preliminary risk analysis, and assisting in the preparation of quotes and proposals. This role is specific to our Captive Underwriting team and presents a unique opportunity for individuals to learn the foundational principles of stop loss underwriting for employers that join a group captive model.

We'll count on you to:
- Assist in the review and analysis of employer group health data, including census information, claims experience, and plan designs.
- Support the underwriting team in preparing stop loss quotes and renewal proposals.
- Enter and maintain accurate data in underwriting systems and tools.
- Collaborate with internal departments such as sales, actuarial, clinical, and claims to ensure timely and accurate quote delivery.
- Monitor and track quote activity, ensuring deadlines are met and documentation is complete.
- Learn and apply underwriting guidelines, policies, and procedures.
- Participate in training and development programs to build underwriting knowledge and skills.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the underwriting process.
What you need to have:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, mathematics, healthcare administration, or a related field.
- Candidates with 2+ years in a related insurance industry will also be considered.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other data analysis tools.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
- Interest in pursuing a long-term career in stop loss insurance underwriting.
