Position Summary
Join a hands-on crew working to preserve historic structures and homes at Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park in Atlanta, GA. As a Historic Preservation Crew Member, you will develop real construction and preservation trade skills while helping restore historic buildings connected to the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. This is a unique opportunity to gain career-building experience in construction trades, historic preservation, and cultural resource stewardship while serving your community.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
Lead preservation service projects, including:
- Historic carpentry and millwork repair
- Window restoration and glazing
- Wood porch repairs
- Cedar shingle and roof preservation
- Historic structure maintenance and assessments
- Model safe tool use (power and hand tools) and enforce jobsite safety standards
- Facilitate member training in preservation skills and historic resource stewardship
- Promote teamwork, professionalism, and strong crew morale
- Communicate regularly with National Park Service staff and partner supervisors
- Track project progress, materials, and safety documentation
- Support educational and career development activities for members
Marginal Duties
Provide a detailed end-of-the-year report; Support with office administrative work occasionally;
Required Qualifications
- 1+ year of experience in carpentry, construction, or preservation trades
- Experience leading teams or supervising group work (formal or informal)
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills
- Passion for historic preservation and cultural resource stewardship
- Ability to perform physical, hands-on work outdoors in varying conditions
- Commitment to mentoring and empowering young adults in trades careers
- Valid driver’s license preferred
This SCA Position is authorized under the Public Land Corps Authority Eligible. Hours served can be applied toward the Public Land Corps (PLC) hiring authority.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of historic building techniques and preservation standards
- Experience working with historic cultural sites
- Familiarity with OSHA or jobsite safety practices
- Previous conservation corps, NPS, or AmeriCorps experience (a plus)
Hours
40 per week
Compensation
$900/Weekly; $1800Total Salary paid bi-weekly
All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.
