SUMMARY:
The Medical Assistant assists in the examination and treatment of clients under the direction of the Physician or Primary Care Provider (PCP) by performing the following duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Level I
- Understand and comply with HIPAA and other regulations concerning client confidentiality.
- Greet clients in a courteous and friendly manner.
- Attempts to deescalate any client complaint and engages supervisor promptly as needed.
- Identifies clients using at least two identifiers at every encounter.
- Interviews clients, obtains vital signs and relevant history, and records information in clients' records.
- Prepares clients according to needs.
- Prepares treatment rooms for examination of clients.
- Prepares equipment for appointment according to client / provider needs.
- Understands and uses sterile technique when needed.
- Assists Medical Providers in all established procedures performed in the clinical setting.
- Operates/performs equipment to administer routine diagnostic tests as needed.
- Capable of reading and interpreting pediatric periodicity charts.
- Capable of reviewing, reconciling, and administering immunizations in accordance with the Advisory Committee of Immunization Practices (ACIP).
- Performs specific injections (intramuscular and subcutaneous) and treatments as defined by clinic Policies and Procedures.
- Cleans and disinfects exam rooms and work areas in accordance with clinic policies.
- Responsible for the care, cleaning and necessary sterilization of all equipment and instruments used in accordance with clinic Policy and Procedure.
- Reports deficits or low inventory of supplies to appropriate personnel.
- Provides guidance for clients to designated areas for labs and referrals.
- Enters and retrieves data from the Electronic Health Record (EHR). This includes health summaries to help with visit planning, vital signs, allergies, chief complaints, review of systems, and other needed information.
- Answers the phone in a courteous and friendly manner. Takes accurate messages, document appropriately and/or delivers messages to the appropriate person in a timely manner.
- Communicates with clinic staff to facilitate efficient client flow and meet client needs.
- Communicates any emergency immediately to appropriate medical staff. Initiates calling of codes as appropriate.
- Maintains positive, effective, and respectful working relationship with peers.
- Attends department meetings and other assigned meetings and trainings.
- Maintains a professional, organized, and clean working environment by following organizational policies, guidelines, and safety standards.
- Demonstrates professional behavior and wears appropriate work attire.
- Participates in Tele-Health visits as needed.
- Must be willing to learn more about the American Indian culture and attend at least one Cultural Presentation/Training per year.
- Must be willing to work with American Indian/Alaska Native people and demonstrate cultural awareness and humility
- Must be willing to deliver services in a culturally responsive manner.
- Adheres to accreditation and compliance standards/guideline
- Other duties may be assigned.
Level II – In addition to the above-mentioned duties
- Must have a Medical Assistant certification.
- Capable of functioning independently at satellite sites
- Fully orientated to and capable of functioning as a Front Office Assistant independently
- Will assist in orientation and training for new staff. Will also assist in training of current staff.
- Assists in development of departmental policies, procedures, and quality improvement activities as directed.
- Will lead and/or facilitate project or initiative to improve clinical workflow.
- Will participate in standing or ad hoc committee
- Seek out leadership training opportunities
- Will lead one educational in-service per calendar year
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Educational degrees must be from a US Department of Education accredited school
Level I
- Must have High School diploma or general education diploma (GED).
Level II – above-mentioned and
- Must have a Medical Assisting certificate from a certified program
- Must have three (3) years of medical assisting experience.
COMPUTER OPERATIONS:- Must have proficient computer skills, such as keyboard, electronic mail, word processing, etc.
- Must be able to learn an Electronic Health Records (EHR) system.
