POSITION PURPOSE:

The Director of Information Technology is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and supervising activities and staff within the IT Department. The Director of Information Technology reports to the Vice President of Operations.

GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Directs and coordinates development and production activities of the IT Department.
  • Consults with management to determine technology priorities and requirements of the college community, determines boundaries and priorities of new projects, and discusses system capacity and equipment acquisitions.
  • Confers with department heads and supervisory staff involved with proposed projects to ensure cooperation and further defines nature of projects.
  • Provides leadership and support for all technology and systems.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain technology plan.
  • Assigns, schedules, and reviews work of subordinates.
  • Prepares progress reports to inform management of project status and deviation from goals.
  • Spends time understanding end-users to ensure products and service improve business performance.
  • Prepares proposals and solicit purchase of systems analysis, programming, and computer services to outside firms.
  • Coordinates installation of computer operating system software and tests, maintains and modifies software.
  • Evaluates user requests for new or modified computer programs to determine feasibility, cost and time required, compatibility with current system, and computer capabilities.
  • Coordinate, evaluate and recommend hardware and software purchases.
  • Prepares and reviews operating budget with the Vice President of Finance and Administration, monitors expenditures and remains within the adopted spending plan.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Vice President of Operations.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Thorough knowledge of Colleague Administrative Software Suite.
  • Thorough knowledge of Oracle Fusion Cloud applications.
  • Good working knowledge of a variety of PC and Mac application packages, and other frequently used programs.
  • Must possess a strong working knowledge of SQL Server.
  • Experience with enterprise applications and understanding of database applications.
  • Ability to review and analyze programs and operations of the college and to develop economical working program systems from this analysis.
  • Strong knowledge of software implementation best practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and written and to deal tactfully and effectively with the students, faculty, and staff.
  • Ability to maintain good customer relations with internal clients (faculty, staff, students), vendors and partners.
  • Knowledge of computer system capabilities, business processes and workflow.
  • Ability to troubleshoot problem areas and direct resources to resolve the problem.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree with major coursework in computer science or computer related field.
  • Five to ten years of extensive, progressively responsible experience in systems work, programming or related data processing areas including considerable administrative or supervisory experience in data processing.
  • Will consider any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Prior leadership experience.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Variances from regular working hours may be necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.
  • Busy working environment with numerous interruptions.
  • Working manager is an expectation.

SALARY:  Commensurate with Education and Experience (This is a 12 month position to be paid over 12 months)
