Position Summary
The Finance Manager is responsible for overseeing core financial operations and ensuring consistency, accuracy, and compliance across all Finance functions. This role manages accounting controls, supervises the Accounts Payable function, supports payroll and tax compliance including quarterly tax filings, and oversees monthly close activities. The Finance Manager ensures financial integrity in accordance with GAAP and supports accurate reporting and forecasting across multiple regions.
This position partners closely with the Senior Controller, COO, HR, Payroll, and Operations leaders to drive process improvements, audit readiness, and compliance. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and thrives in a fast-paced, high-volume, multi-state environment.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Operations & Accounting

Support month-end and year-end close, including journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis.

Maintain the general ledger, ensuring proper coding, documentation, and accuracy of all financial transactions.

Prepare and reconcile balance sheet schedules with supporting documentation for audit readiness.

Ensure compliance with US GAAP, internal controls, and company accounting policies.
Compliance & Audit Readiness

Oversee compliance across finance-related functions, including payroll, AP, tax, and expense policies.

Support ongoing internal and external audits through documentation, sample requests, and remediation plans.

Ensure controls are in place for segregation of duties, approval workflows, and audit defense.
Tax, Regulatory & Multi-State Compliance

Support state tax registrations, setup, and filings as part of new market expansion.

Collaborate with third-party tax partners to ensure timely, accurate filings.

Monitor and maintain compliance with state-specific payroll tax, nexus, and corporate tax requirements.
Accounts Payable & Vendor Management

Supervise AP team and workflow to ensure timely processing of invoices, credits, vendor setup, and payments.

Enforce internal controls for vendor onboarding approvals and expense compliance.

Collaborate with Procurement and Operations to support vendor accountability, cost optimization, and payment accuracy.
Payroll Financial Oversight

Verify payroll accuracy, GL mapping, and compliance with wage and hour financial requirements.

Review payroll-to-GL entries to confirm accuracy in labor distribution across states, regions, and service lines.

Support reconciliation of payroll liabilities and reporting required for audits, taxes, and compliance.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Financial Analysis

Support budget processes by preparing templates, consolidations, and review of submissions.

Assist in maintaining recurring forecasts, including monitoring regional financial performance and variances tied to labor, pricing, margins, and operating costs

Prepare periodic reporting packages that highlight risks, trends, and recommendations.
Internal Controls & Continuous Improvement

Develop and update finance SOPs, checklists, and process documentation to strengthen accountability and efficiency.

Identify opportunities to streamline and automate workflows across AP, payroll finance, reconciliations, and approval processes.

Support system and digital transformation initiatives to enhance data quality and financial visibility.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required).
- CPA, CA, ACCA or CMA preferred, but not required.
Experience
- 5+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience, preferably in a multi-state environment.
- Experience in services, facilities management, construction, staffing, or similar labor-driven industry strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of GAAP, internal controls, and financial compliance.
- Prior experience with accounting systems (NetSuite or similar ERP) preferred.

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
- Team player, highly skilled & working knowledge of full life cycle accounting & preparation of financial statements.
- Ability to interpret financial data and clearly communicate findings to leadership.
- Proficiency in Excel (VLOOKUP, INDEX Match, pivot tables, multi-tab reconciliations).
- Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work cross-functionally with HR, Operations, and Executive Leadership.
Work Environment
- This position is 100% in-office and based in our Sacramento, CA headquarters. Regular onsite presence is required to support close collaboration with the Finance, HR, and Operations teams.
