We currently have an exciting new opportunity at Northern Star (Pogo) LLC for a motivated Graduate Accountant! Work location is based at Pogo Mine's Fairbanks Office, located at 3204 International Street, Fairbanks, AK. This position works a schedule of Monday - Friday, 8 hours per day.

What's the role?
The Graduate Accountant reports to the Finance Superintendent and the primary role is to support the delivery of accurate, timely, and compliant financial and operational reporting for the Pogo operation. This role provides hands-on exposure to mine site accounting, cost control, payroll interface support, and reporting systems, while developing technical accounting and commercial capability within a mining environment.

Specific duties & responsibilities:
- Assist in timely month-end close activities, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and variance analysis
- Prepare supporting documentation for general ledger maintenance and audit requirements
- Maintain fixed asset records and support capital project accounting in conjunction with the Financial Analyst
- Partner with site departments (Mining, Mill, Maintenance, Camp Services, HSE) to support cost performance and budget alignment
- Assist in preparation of cost reports, cost-per-tonne tracking, and operational dashboards
- Monitor purchase orders, goods receipting, and vendor invoice workflows

- Collaborate with Payroll and HR to support labor costing, roster validation, and time & attendance accuracy.
- Preparation of fortnightly payroll in conjunction with the Payroll Accountant and completion of end of payroll process reports.
- Assist with expatriate cost allocations, allowances, and workforce reporting
- Ensure adherence to internal controls, accounting standards, and company policies
- Support audit preparation and documentation (internal and external)
- Maintain data accuracy and confidentiality standards
- Work with SAP/ERP and associated mine accounting systems
- Support digital transformation, automation initiatives, and process mapping
- Identify efficiency opportunities and contribute to continuous improvement activities
- Other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Economics, or related discipline
- Strong analytical and numerical capability
- Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with Pronto ERP system.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced operational environment
- Preferred experience or exposure to mining, energy, construction or heavy industrial sector.
- Current Driver's License.
Desired Experience & Competencies
- Minimum two (2) relevant work experience with exposure to payroll and ERP Systems (ADP, Pronto)
- Demonstrated computer skills in Windows environment with experience in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Critical thinking skills, problem solving skills, and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of accounting, GAAP, IFRS, reporting, reporting research results, and confidentiality.
- Good communication skills.
- Flexibility to adapt to improved procedures and practices.
- Awareness of the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) Act & Regulations.
- Be able to pass a background check and post offer physical.
