Duties and Responsibilities (*Denotes Essential Functions):

  • *Work under the direction of the Principal Investigator (PI) of the Mapuna Lab in the Division of Mathematics, Natural, and Health Sciences (MNHS) to perform a full range of tasks related to media, online presence, social media, multimedia, video and more.
  • *Work as a team member to identify, evaluate, and remediate problems that interfere with an efficient workflow to accomplish the Mapuna Lab's mission and goals.
  • *Provide technical support to create, manage, and maintain the Lab's online presence in social media, website, and online flyers.
  • *Collect data to prepare various supporting media to enhance the Lab's media presence.
  • *Support the PI in creating design assets to accompany projects and reports.
  • *Support the PI in preparing and submitting media for approval.
  • *Procure quotes and handle purchasing of media related supplies.
  • Provide technical advice, support, and assistance to administrator, staff, and faculty on routine operations to ensure compliance with departmental and institutional policies and procedures.  
  • Arrange for space, both on and off campus, for training, events, meetings and other Lab functions. 
  • Perform other general administrative duties include scheduling meetings, hosting meetings, filing, organizing, printing, and handling correspondence.
  • Other duties as assigned.   

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Possession of a baccalaureate degree in communication, creative media, design, art, or related field and two (2) years of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for maintaining websites, graphic design, marketing, search engine optimization (SEO), eCommerce and UX/UI, photography, videography, and animation; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
  2. Functional knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of operation of database software and internet usage, data management systems, web development, and program data archive demonstrated by knowledge, understanding and ability to apply concepts, terminology.
  3. Functional knowledge and understanding of principles, theories, federal and state laws, rules, regulations and systems associated with copyright laws and creative commons.
  4. Demonstrated ability to recognize problems, identify possible causes and resolve the full range problems that may commonly occur in the area of marketing, public presence, and social media.
  5. Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation, write reports and procedures, and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
  6. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team members and individuals.
  7. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software and distance video conferencing software (e.g., Zoom Meeting).

Supplemental Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Demonstrated experience in data visualization as it relates to behavioral health, health systems, and health communication.
  2. Experience working in the field of substance abuse. 

Desirable Qualifications:

  1. At least two (2) years of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities related to graphic design and web development in an institution of higher education.
  2. Education and experience in the cultural and geographic setting specific to Hawai‘i islands. 
  3. Knowledge of Pacific Islands and Oceanic cultural and political history. 
  4. Knowledge of Olelo Hawaii (Hawaiian language).
