Whitecap is looking to fill Engineering Summer Student positions for May 2026 based in our head office in Calgary, AB. These internships will be 4 months, from May to August, and will provide you the opportunity to get hands on experience that will develop the skills for a career in Oil and Gas industry.

Positions Overview
Exploitation
The Exploitation Engineering Co-op Student will join a multi-disciplinary team of professionals actively focused on the development of oil assets in Eastern Saskatchewan. The Co-op Student will be required to interact and engage in a high capacity with team members and other functional groups to support, and ultimately lead, efforts in the following categories that fall under the responsibilities of the Exploitation Engineering function:
Reservoir management initiatives including but not limited too: evaluating the implementation of water flooding or other pressure support schemes for oil reservoirs, surveillance and optimization of existing waterfloods, and fulfillment of regulatory obligations associated with enhanced recovery schemes.
Undertake technical and financial reviews of existing oil and/or gas producing assets including assessment of well production and reserve results/forecasts along with assessment/validation of other key economic evaluation inputs including operating costs, capital costs, royalties, realized commodity pricing and risks.
Generate and assess key economics indicators for new and existing assets
Generate asset valuations based on key inputs and a multi-disciplinary assessment of future drilling opportunities.
Reservoir
Reservoir computer modeling
Conduct reservoir and waterflood surveillance/management
Conduct reservoir studies for the purpose of optimizing production in a specific pool or area
Evaluate opportunities for wells for optimizations, recompletions, injector conversions, pressure observation, and/or abandonments
Complete regulatory compliance for operations in Alberta and Saskatchewan
Provide technical support for reserves forecast and estimates
Gather, manipulate, and analyze data using: PowerBI, Verdazo, ValNav
Communicate and collaborate with Exploitation, Geology, Drilling, Completions, Land, and Operation teams on various projects
Facilities
Conduct pipeline hydraulic calculations using VMGSim or equivalent software
Assist in preparing AFE costs based on technical and budget demands
Prepare facility and pipeline project working files
Create pipeline infrastructure maps
Perform evaluation/optimization of surface equipment
Assist in facility and/or field gathering design and construction
Prepare governmental applications
Conduct economic or financial analysis of field construction costs
Gather, manipulate, and analyze data
Drilling
Evaluate drilling data and techniques within the company’s operated areas and analogous fields
Lead new technology evaluations and field trials with chemicals, equipment and processes
Prepare performance reports for management detailing safety, operations, and cost trends
Development of computer applications to improve efficiencies and accuracy of information
Work closely with Engineers, Superintendents and Technicians
Work with other teams to collaborate on multi discipline projects
Attend industry training and seminars
Field visits/tours as required
Exposure to leading edge technologies and operations
Be part of a highly technical, high functioning team
Operations
Provide support on well optimizations which includes surface and downhole (economics and equipment loading evaluation)
Designing artificial lift systems (rod pumps, gas lift, plunger lift, PCP’s and ESP’s)
Analysis on pump efficiency to evaluate potential optimizations
Service Rig workover analysis and economics
Evaluation of shut-in wells to determine if economically viable to re-activate or be added to abandonment list (prioritization of abandonment list)
Assist with AFEs (authorizations for expenditure) as well as cost and optimization tracking

Primary Qualifications
Enrolled in a bachelor’s degree in Engineering and scheduled to return to school following the internship
2nd or 3rd year Petroleum, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering Student preferred but not required
Excellent computer skills with in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, specifically Excel
High level of accuracy and attention to detail is essential
Hardworking, self-driven individual who has a passion for the Oil and Gas Industry in Canada
Excellent communication skills and not afraid to ask questions when needed
Enthusiastic individual with excellent organizational and time management skills
