As a member of the IIMS Community Engagement (CE) Team, this individual will serve as a liaison to our practice-based research networks (PBRNs). They will support the implementation of research projects in collaboration with PBRN Directors, advisory boards, and network members. This role involves working closely with the IIMS CE team to strengthen research infrastructure that promotes community responsiveness, research relevance, and public health impact. The position focuses on overseeing research conducted in community settings—it is not a bench science role.

Responsibilities

COMMUNICATION & RELATIONSHIP BUILDING (10%)

  • Maintain routine correspondence with office staff via phone, email, and text to sustain and develop relationships with networks.
  • Recruit new PBRN members.
  • Support community events of local network practices as needed.
  • Represent PBRN Directors as needed at local meetings and events.
  • Communicate IIMS and CE-related opportunities to networks.
  • Draft articles for newsletters. 

PROVIDE EDUCATION AND TRAINING (20%)

  • Assist practitioners, staff, and advisory boards with CITI Training certification and study implementation.
  • Train practitioners, staff, students/residents, and advisory boards on study protocol procedures including but not limited to participant recruitment, data collection, and/or intervention facilitation.
  • Train staff and/or students/residents on basic research processes that support study protocols.
  • Work with interns to support the mission of the PBRNs.

PROVIDE RESEARCH AND TECHNICAL SUPPORT (40%)

  • Assist with the implementation (including, but not limited to study protocol development; subject recruitment; data collection and management; and/or intervention facilitation) of studies collaboratively developed with PBRN members and other community partners. 
  • Work closely with investigators to develop and submit documentation for IRB review; provide updates to IRB as needed. 
  • Collaborate with networks to respond to grant opportunities including drafting, identifying literature, writing literature reviews, and/or collecting extant data (collect, clean, manage, and store data). 
  • Conduct quantitative analyses - complex univariate and bivariate. 
  • Coordinate qualitative research activities e.g. focus groups. 
  • Draft manuscripts, technical reports and/or research posters and collaboratively finalize with PBRN partners. 
  • Provide technical assistance (tables, references, formatting) for grants and manuscripts.

ADMINISTRATIVE & TECHNICAL SUPPORT (20%)

  • Coordinate (and prepare meeting materials) for face-to-face and online meetings, including agenda creation, preparation of presentations, handouts, and postmeeting summaries.
  • Oversee travel arrangements, vendor payee setup, voucher preparation, reimbursements for payments for individual network members as needed. 
  • Submit catering, parking, and room reservation requests for network meetings. 
  • Provide audiovisual and computer setup for meetings.

OTHER

  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the CE Team’s activities, including the annual CE Symposium. 
  • Assist with travel arrangements, voucher preparation, reimbursements for payment as needed.

Qualifications

  • Work in a collaborative team environment
  • Demonstrate strong organizational and time management skills
  • Be self-motivated, able to prioritize tasks, and complete projects with minimal supervision
  • Have experience with reference management tools (e.g., EndNote)
  • Exhibit excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Be comfortable interacting with students, faculty, staff, and healthcare practitioners
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Possess strong data management and documentation skills
  • Have experience in quantitative data analysis, preferably using SPSS
  • Have experience coordinating qualitative research activities
  • Institutional Review Board (IRB) coordination experience is a plus

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field is required. Master's degree preferred.
  • Social science or public health background preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Two (2) years of related experience is required.
  • Master's degree may be considered in lieu of experience.

FSAs - Employees can enroll in flexible spending accounts (FSAs) to set aside money from earnings before taxes for qualifying dependent day care expenses or out-of-pocket health care expenses. 

Retirement - Employees are eligible for either the Teacher Retirement System (TRS) or the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP). TRS is a defined benefit retirement plan which UT Health matches employee contributions. ORP is for eligible faculty staff employees. Voluntary retirement programs are also available to invest before- or after-tax dollars with the choice of five quality retirement plan providers. 

Time Off - A generous leave program offers multiple paid leave options:
  • Front-loaded Paid Time Off: 128 to 208 hours (16 to 26 days) of Paid Time Off based on years of service, given at the start of each fiscal year. PTO may be prorated in year one based on date of hire.
  • Extended Illness Bank: 8 hours (1 day) accrued per month which can be used for illness or injury after one day of Paid Time Off is taken.
  • Paid Family Leave: Up to 240 hours (6 weeks) to care for a spouse, child, or parent after 6 months of consecutive employment.
  • Holidays: 12 set paid holidays each year.
