Primary Objectives
The Medical Assistant is a key line-level position responsible for performing both clinical and administrative tasks to support healthcare providers. This job description is not an all-inclusive list of the duties and responsibilities of this position. PCI Employees are expected to perform all duties and responsibilities necessary to meet the goals and objectives of applicable programs and departmental objectives, as assigned.

Essential Functions
  • Performs Medical Assistant duties that may include working directly with Medical Director:
  • Obtaining vital signs, phlebotomy, preparing and administering injections, cleaning and preparing exam rooms, maintaining and documenting in electronic health records.
  • Records meeting minutes for Medical Director.
  • Covers for other departments within the Health Clinic, including Employee Clinic and Native Winds, as needed.
  • Maintains records of Tribal Health Clinic employee vaccines (new hires, titers, boosters).
  • Performs administrative/secretarial duties using specific knowledge of medical terminology, and laboratory procedures.
  • Assists QA director dashboards and QI projects.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate person.
Job Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Five (5) years of employment as a Medical Assistant required.
  • Experience in electronic health record software required.
  • Medical Assistant certification preferred. Applicants with previous documented Medical Assistant program completion will be considered.
  • Must maintain current professional licensure in Basic Life Support (BLS) or obtain licensure within 90 days of date of hire.
  • Must possess certification of Mandatory Reporter Training or obtain certification during the first week of employment.
  • Ability to work odd and irregular hours, as needed.
  • Must successfully pass the required criminal and character background check.
  • Ability to travel and participate in required training, leadership development, and other events.
  • Ability to perform all duties and responsibilities of this position adequately and successfully.
Core Competencies Required
  • Absolute confidentiality, adhering to HIIPPA and the Privacy Act.
  • Must have working knowledge of computers with the ability to work in a Windows environment with various software programs such as Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology required.
  • Ability to record information concisely and accurately.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service.
  • Demonstrate proficiently in English, spelling, punctuation, and basic writing skills.
  • Ability to communicate verbally in a tactful manner.
  • Must be people oriented and relate well to people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to remain engaged until assignments are completed and overcome obstacles.
  • Takes accountability for performance and results.
  • Open and honest communicator and follows policies and procedures.
