Position Summary

Rowland Hall is seeking a committed safety and security professional to play a central role in keeping our campus safe, welcoming, and thriving. The candidate will design and implement safety strategies, respond to evolving security challenges, and help shape the future of the school’s safety culture. Reporting to the Chief Information and Safety Officer (CISO), the candidate will collaborate with a dynamic community of students, staff, and families, to foster a safe and supportive environment.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the school’s safety and security protocols.
  • Oversee the school’s health and safety committee in setting policies and procedures around safety and security.
  • Collaborate with the project management team to incorporate safety and security features into the final stages of the Steiner Campus project, a new Middle and Upper School building scheduled to open in Fall 2026.
  • Collaborate with the Human Resources and Health teams to integrate safety and security courses into employee training programs.
  • Coordinate protocols and manage relationships with external security firms, including support for campus events as needed.
  • ​​Track safety and security incidents, maintain accurate records, and provide reports to the Chief Information and Safety Officer and other leadership as needed.
  • Work closely with the Leadership Team to plan and support future safety and security initiatives.
  • Stay informed on federal, state, and local safety and security requirements for schools, ensuring compliance and liaising with relevant agencies as needed.
  • Regularly review and update school safety policies to ensure they reflect best practices and comply with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Maintain strong, collaborative relationships with local law enforcement, fire departments, and other emergency services to ensure a coordinated response in an emergency.
  • Act as a first responder on campus to safety or security concerns.
  • Build positive relationships with students, faculty, and staff to maintain a visible, approachable presence within the school community.

Skills and Requirements

  • Expert in creating and executing comprehensive emergency response plans for various scenarios, such as active threats, natural disasters, and medical emergencies.
  • Knowledge of physical security measures and technologies, such as access control systems, surveillance technology, and alarm systems.
  • Experience conducting regular security assessments and audits of facilities to identify potential vulnerabilities and recommend improvements.
  • Experience and skill in investigating and documenting security incidents to determine root causes and ensure a proper response.
  • Effective communicator, communicating clearly and calmly during a crisis, and explaining safety plans to different audiences, including students, employees, parents, and community members.
  • Problem Solving & Critical Thinking – Able to analyze complex situations, make quick decisions, and respond effectively under pressure.
  • Empathy & Conflict Management – Skilled in de-escalation and conflict resolution, with the ability to interact thoughtfully with students and a diverse school community.
  • This position requires a high degree of integrity and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality, especially regarding sensitive incidents or information.
  • Experience in law enforcement and/or security roles is preferred.

Additional Information

This is a full-time, exempt position, reporting to the Chief Information and Safety Officer. The anticipated start date is January, 2026. Compensation is based on benchmarking and prior experience.
