Olympic College is recruiting a Custodian 3. This position supports the College’s mission by providing leadership and day-to-day supervision of custodial staff to ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for students, employees, and visitors. Responsibilities include assigning and overseeing work, training staff, evaluating performance, managing schedules and leave requests, and participating in the hiring and disciplinary processes.

Position Duties

This position is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming campus environment by cleaning, sanitizing, and performing light maintenance in classrooms, restrooms, offices, and common areas.

Classroom and Common Area Cleaning

  • Clean and sanitize classrooms, lobbies, halls, stairwells, and common areas.
  • Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors; wipe down desks, whiteboards, fixtures, and high-touch surfaces.
  • Wash windows, doors, handles, and ledges.
  • Remove trash and recycling; return furniture to standard layout.
  • Clean elevated surfaces (lighting, HVAC diffusers) using ladders and proper tools.

Restroom Sanitation

  • Clean mirrors, sinks, counters, toilets, and urinals using PPE and approved cleaning agents.

  • Sweep and mop floors; disinfect high-touch surfaces.

  • Restock paper goods, soap, and hygiene products.

  • Perform monthly deep cleaning using Kaivac systems.

Floor and Surface Care

  • Strip and refinish hard floors; extract carpets and upholstery.

  • Maintain and operate floor machines and tools safely.

  • Perform intensive floor care during scheduled breaks.

Maintenance and Repairs

  • Perform minor repairs and touch-up painting.

  • Install, adjust, and replace dispensers; change batteries and troubleshoot.

  • Identify and resolve basic building issues (e.g., fixture adjustments, light bulb replacements).

  • Prepare surfaces for painting and caulking as needed.

Event and Furniture Support

  • Move and arrange furniture and equipment for classes and events.

  • Set up and break down tables, chairs, and other items.

  • Remain on call during events to handle cleanup needs.

  • Coordinate with staff on event layouts and post-event cleanup.

Inventory and Administrative Tasks

  • Use work order systems to request and track assignments and repairs.

  • Check and respond to emails; request needed supplies.

  • Record time and work hours accurately using ctcLink.

  • Reference SDS sheets for proper chemical use and safety.

  • Maintain supply inventories and equipment records.

Other Duties

  • Remove snow and ice; maintain sidewalks and stairs.

  • Perform deep cleaning during academic breaks.

  • Clean interior and exterior glass at building entrances.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School graduation or equivalent.
  • 2 years of overall work experience in custodial, general, and/or building maintenance.
  • Computer experience with MS Office, e-mail, and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems
  • Working knowledge of custodial standards and operations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using Compuclean
  • Experience working in a customer service organization.
  • Experience in Custodial Services for a government, higher education institution, or related organization.

Please note that we are unable to sponsor visas for this position.  Only candidates who are currently authorized to work in the United States will be considered.

This is a full-time classified position scheduled to work 40 hours a week, with a salary range of $38,868 - $51,588 annually. All classified positions will start their salary at Step A, when you have completed six months of probation, you will receive a 5 percent pay increase. A collective bargaining agreement exists, and this position is covered by the Washington Public Employees Association (WPEA) Union. Classified positions qualify for the following benefits:
