Position: Cafeteria Manager/Cook III
Location: Hedgesville Early Learning Academy
Responsibility: Implementation of child nutrition program meal services
Accountable to: Building Principal & Director of Food Services

Time: 6:30 am - 1:30 pm
Paygrade: Cafeteria Manager/Cook III - D Cafeteria Manager/Cook III - D (minimum of $27,930-maximum of $41,870 based upon years of service) plus competitive benefits package equal to approximately 35% of direct compensation.
SUMMARY:
Responsible for planning, managing, monitoring, supervising and providing assistance in the provisioning, operation, and functions of a school cafeteria.
Prepare and serve breakfast, lunch and other food to children and adults in a courteous customer service oriented manner. Organize and set up equipment and workstations. Perform duties following health, food service, government and other regulations.
ESSENTIAL TASKS

- Assigns, directs, plans, and supervises the work of all cafeteria employees.
- Directs and assists in the preparation of food portions and prepares for the serving of all food in the cafeteria.
- Directs sanitation procedures.
- Inspects the kitchen, cooking and mixing utensils, and employees for cleanliness and sanitary purposes.
- Plans, directs, and supervises cleaning schedules for the eating area of the cafeteria.
- Assumes responsibility for the requisition & security of food and supplies.
- Assumes responsibility for the making requisition for repairs of equipment.
- Instructs new (and substitute) cafeteria employees in performing their assigned tasks.
- Performs related duties as required including duties at special meal functions.
- Orders food through the central food service office so the school’s nutritional offerings follow the county developed menus and serving portions as required by food guidelines.
- Correctly completes, in a timely manner, and keeps reports and documents pertinent to food services.
- Performs related work as required.
- Assists in the preparation of food portions and prepares cafeteria counter.
- Serves students and staff from the cafeteria counter.
- Removes used dishes and assists in the cleaning of counters, tables, and furnishings in the dining area.
- Takes turn in washing pots and pans.
- Practice personal hygiene and proper sanitation procedures.
- Exhibit courtesy and understanding to staff and customers.
- Set up and break down of serving areas.
- Participate in formal and informal training.
- Demonstrate knowledge of sanitation practices.
- Performs related work as required.
- Interpreting menus for the purpose of meal preparation.
- Planning, researching and implementing menus.
- Willingly assisting in all jobs areas when practical.
- Keeping records, makes reports and is responsible for purchasing of all food, supplies and other kitchen-related materials.
- Using time effectively to complete assigned tasks.
- Having a working knowledge of all kitchen equipment and devices and shows ability to maintain this equipment.
- Insuring that meal service deadlines are met during the school day through proper assignment of personnel to job tasking.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
General knowledge of the preparation, cooking and serving of food in large quantities; general knowledge of food quality and values: some knowledge of special dietary requirements; general knowledge of the practices used in receiving and storing food in large quantities; general knowledge of kitchen sanitation and safety measures used in food handling and in the operation, cleaning and care of utensils, equipment and work area; ability to supervise the work of others; ability to prepare reports; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, students and school staff. Able to maintain emotional control, the ability to work with others in a close fast paced environment and the ability to address customers and staff in a pleasant, courteous manner. Must be organized and be able to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously and correctly complete reports and documents in a timely manner.
General knowledge of materials and methods used in preparing and serving meats, breads, vegetables and other foods on a large scale; general knowledge of the use or care of food preparation equipment; skill in the use of standardized and specialized kitchen utensils and equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, students and school staff. Able to maintain emotional control, the ability to work with others in a close fast paced environment and the ability to address customers in a pleasant, courteous manner.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma. Have or obtain a valid sanitation certification issued by the local health department. Must successfully complete any the manager training class/staff development and successfully performed responsibilities as an on the job manager.
A level of education necessary for reading and following written food menus and work schedules.
A valid food handler's card issued by the school division.
A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to a, personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Some walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, and handling, pushing, and pulling. Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds. Ability to stand for long periods of time. Ability to be exposed to chemicals. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to a, personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine.
