Job Summary
Under the direction and general supervision of the Landscape Supervisor, the incumbent performs a variety of skilled manual tasks including various types of native conservation duties, trail repair, volunteer support, tree planting, and general forestry vegetation maintenance, such as trimming, brushing, small tree removal to help support the Vegetation Management Plan.
In addition, some general duties (gardening, earth removing, refuse disposal, stocking and storing materials), as instructed.
The incumbent is expected to perform assignments under various weather conditions. It would encompass various terrains including area containing Poison Oak, stairs, forest trails, hills, slopes, and rocky foot paths.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $26.60 - $35.78 (Hourly Rate).

Required Qualifications
- High school graduation and one (1) year of experience as a laborer/gardener (landscape, horticulture or forestry); or equivalent combination of education and work experience
- Demonstrated experience in safely operating power tools (i.e. chainsaw) and small to large/heavy equipment
- Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing in English with customers and department staff at all levels
- Ability to read, write and perform basic arithmetic calculations
- Working knowledge of landscape, horticulture, or forestry.
- Ability to perform work on schedule in a safe and timely manner
- Demonstrated experience safely operating and maintaining power tools
- Ability to work without direct supervision and handle multiple projects simultaneously
- Ability to deliver high quality customer service and to respond to the customer’s needs
- Demonstrated familiarity with field-related equipment
- Ability to communicate with technical staff and skilled trades
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated knowledge of ornamental and California native plants
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint)
- Experience climbing without spurs
- Knowledge of knots and rigging technics
- Demonstrated experience with small equipment maintenance
- Demonstrated experience in trail maintenance
- Experience working with volunteer programs
- University experience or comparable experience supporting a large, complex service oriented institution
