Reporting to the Manager, Diagnostic Imaging Services, the Cardiology Technician will provide accurate electrocardiogram (ECG) and Holter monitor services to both inpatients and outpatients as required by the medical staff while maintaining hospital standards within the Diagnostic Imaging Department. The technician will perform diagnostic cardiac procedures and clerical work associated with the diagnostic imaging services and will assist and support the efforts of the Diagnostic Imaging team by providing the following services: coordinate and communicate diagnostic appointments with patients, emergency department, in-patient ward, clinics, and communities across the region and at times the territory. The incumbent will assist in the basic quality assurance and maintenance of the equipment and will promote a safe work environment for both patients and staff. The position will provide support for the Diagnostic imaging in the day-to-day operations of the department. The technician provides electrocardiogram and holter monitor services based on referrals from physicians by undertaking the following responsibilities:
Responsibilities
- Performs and records ECGs across hospital departments, ensuring timely submission to Cardiologists and accurate distribution of interpreted results.
- Conducts Holter monitor hookups for inpatients and outpatients, manages regional device coordination, and enters data into Icentia and Meditech systems.
- Maintains ECG equipment in safe, clean, and operational condition, and provides technical training on lead placement and basic interpretation to clinical staff.
- Schedules and coordinates diagnostic appointments across multiple units and communities, ensuring efficient patient flow and timely communication of results.
- Provides clear instructions to patients regarding examination procedures and handles call-backs, cancellations, and rescheduling with professionalism.
- Supports diagnostic services through accurate patient registration, record updates, report distribution, and adherence to retention policies using Meditech.
- Responds to inquiries related to ECGs, Holter monitors, and appointments with clarity and professionalism, ensuring high-quality patient and staff support.
Qualifications
The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this position are:
- A high school diploma and a certificate/diploma from an accredited college as a Cardiology Technician.
- One year experience working in a health care setting.
- An acceptable combination of education and experience may be considered.
This is a Highly Sensitive Position and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required.
The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in English is required for the position. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land,Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
