JOB SUMMARY & RESPONSIBILITIES

POET is currently one of the nation’s largest container exporter, exporting feed products to more than 20 countries. We are excited to have recently acquired a rail-to-container transload facility in Savannah, Georgia! By expanding our footprint, we will continue to drive consistency and demand within several of POET’s key markets for POET DDGS & POET CFP animal feed. Our customers have already come to expect nothing less than the best in food safety and quality from POET, and we will continue to deliver as a trusted partner!

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 6:45 AM - 4:30 PM

The Transload Operator assists with various production-based responsibilities such as railcar unloading, bulkhead installation and container data entry.   

DURING A TYPICAL DAY 

  • Prepare products and materials for container shipment.

  • Scan seals into a handheld device.

  • Operate forklift to transport wood and cardboard used to create bulkheads.

  • Operate hand and power tools to create bulkheads for containers.

  • Assist with standard yard activities to ensure efficient operations, such as assisting with moving rail cars and identifying which rail cars need to be unloaded.

  • Assist with standard maintenance of the yard (sweep, shovel & pressure wash).

  • Adhere to all safety policies and procedures.

STRENGTHS OF A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

  • One year relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

  • You are a very hard worker and eager to learn new skills.

  • You have knowledge of various types of equipment and their controls.

  • You have the ability to use hand and power tools.

  • Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills as well as the ability to embrace change.

  • You communicate effectively in writing and in person.

  • You have the ability to understand or learn technical and day to day operation of a terminal facility.

  • You know the basics of Microsoft Office Suite. You’re capable of learning new programs.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This position is largely self-directed and requires a thorough understanding of company policy, procedures, and values. Team members will be required to adhere to all safety requirements at all times and in all work environments. The team member may be exposed to high noise levels, moving mechanical parts, dusty conditions, internal and external temperature/weather conditions, and chemicals. Personal Protective Equipment will be provided to help mitigate the effects of such work environments.

  • Due to the physical and safety sensitive nature of this job, you will be subject to a physical and expected to pass a drug screen during the pre-screen process. During employment, you’ll be subject to random drug and alcohol testing.

  • Specific physical requirements may include:

    • Occasionally lifting weight up to sixty (60) pounds.

    • Climbing several flights of stairs and ladders.

    • Occasionally bending, twisting and turning while lifting weight of less than fifty (50) pounds.

    • Walking up to two (2) or more miles per day.

    • Pushing brooms, shovels, etc.

    • Standing for extended periods of time.

    • Wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

    • Using hand and power tools.
