Position Duties
This position is assigned to work in Bridges to Life Transition Program. This program provides educational, social, and emotional development for students who are deaf/hard-of-hearing, blind/visually impaired, and students with additional disabilities to include emotional/behavior, learning, physical/medical and/or cognitive, ensuring a safe environment on campus and in the work place/community.
This position will provide educational support in the classrooms and on job sites to students who are blind/visually impaired, and who may have additional disabilities. This support will be given under the direction of and in collaboration with a teacher in Bridges to Life Transition Program, and will be consistent with Individual Education Program (IEP) goals and objectives. Support will include management of behavior in order to maintain a safe learning environment.
Under the direction of and in collaboration with a teacher, supervise students in a variety of settings; e.g., community-based job sites, post-secondary educational institutions, transition classes on-campus and off-campus, dormitories, and other transitional settings ,ensuring student safety at all times. Monitor behavior, assist students with assignments, and teach job I employability skills (including work ethic) to students at job sites and informal class settings. Identify and assure adaptations are made/utilized during community-based work experience. Facilitate communication and instruction for students in classroom and community job site settings. Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Licensure/Certification/Experience:Associate’s degree from an accredited institution in a field of study related to the work assignment
Substitutions
Two (2) years of study at an accredited institution (equivalent to 48 semester hours) will substitute for the degree requirement
Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics through a formal state or local academic assessment (e.g., ACT WorkKeys) will substitute for the degree requirement, but a high school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) is required if using this substitution
Acceptable course work/degree shall be in the following areas: a liberal arts core content-focused course of studies; in the social or behavioral sciences; Education; Special Education; Early Childhood Development; or, closely related field from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.
Special Qualifications
- Ability to work effectively with students who are Deaf/hard-of-hearing and/or blind/visually impaired, and who may have additional disabilities / special needs.
- Must successfully complete annual Colorado Department of Education (CDE) Transportation / driver training requirements.
- Knowledge of and ability to assess and apply technology to perform the requirements of the position; ability to effectively utilize a variety of computer software applications, which may include but is not limited to e-mail, internet, word processing ,electronic calendar, presentation development, spreadsheet, database, etc.; willingness to stay current and develop skills as needed with or without direct support from CSDB.
- Ability to respond effectively and positively to feedback; ability to participate effectively in team setting and to work independently; strong interpersonal and communication skills; effective organization skills; effective problem-solving skills.
- A courteous, professional, and helpful attitude in the role of CSDB representative.
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) at the INTERMEDIATE (2+) skill level ,or applicants must be willing and able to attain proficiency at that level within a specified period of time, as demonstrated by an appropriate assessment tool and according to school policy/procedure.
