The Need 

For over 25 years, IJM has pioneered the work to protect vulnerable people from violence. 9 out of 9 times in the last decade, IJM’s Justice System Strengthening Projects have reduced slavery and violence between 50 and 85% for very large populations of people in poverty. As we grow to expand our impact to protect 500 million people from violence, we are seeking a Regional Lead, Strategy and Projects, South Asia. 

 

The Regional Lead, Strategy and Projects, provides project management and leadership for critical cross-functional projects and/or initiatives in the South Asia Region. Working closely with leadership across the region and organization, this role is responsible for all phases of project management, ensuring adherence to IJM’s global project management standards. They will develop and implement effective and robust plans to manage project scope, timeline, and budget. In executing the project, they will ensure effective communication rhythms to keep project stakeholders apprised of project status, changes, and relevant information. They will provide monitoring and quality assurance to ensure the project achieves its desired results, and they will facilitate project closing, including debriefing and collecting learnings  

 

This position is based in the Washington, DC area and is available to be hybrid (onsite Tuesdays & Thursdays). It reports to the Regional Director, Strategy and Portfolio Management, and is only available for candidates with the right to work in the US.  

 

 

Responsibilities: 

 

Strategy and Knowledge Development and Implementation 

  • Initiate regional projects that have been assigned in line with the regional strategy and priorities. 

  • Produce project charters clearly defining the project’s objective(s), scope, timeline, budget, key stakeholders, risks, and interdependencies. Secure required charter approval from identified Project Executive Sponsor(s). 

 

Research, Program Management and Monitoring & Evaluation (“M&E) 

  • Produce project plans that clearly define all phases of the project, timelines, and responsible stakeholders. 

  • Produce regular project status reports based on established project communications plan. 

  • Manage project stakeholders – including liaising with stakeholders at the executive level – making sure all stakeholders are clear on project objectives. 

  • Manage project scope to ensure deliverables are produced that meet or exceed stakeholder expectations. 

  • Create Charter Scope Change document as needed to formally document any scope changes that occur during the duration of the project. Obtain appropriate approval for documented scope changes. 

  • Manage project schedule and timeline and adjust as needed, appropriately informing key project stakeholders and acquiring any necessary timeline adjustment approval. 

  • Manage project budget and adjust as needed, appropriately informing key project stakeholders and acquiring any necessary budget change approval. 

  • Assemble and manage project team and make sure all team members are clear on their responsibilities and timelines. 

  • Manage project risk and lead risk mitigation plans to proactively address all identified risks. Communicate identified risks to appropriate project stakeholders. 

  • Lead project closing, including debriefing and knowledge management. 

 

Communication 

  • Develop project communications plan in collaboration with regional internal communications team to ensure key project stakeholders are appropriately informed of the status of the project. 

  • Manage project communication with all stakeholders, including executive-level stakeholders. 

  • Partner with Regional Leadership to identify project needs related to change management. 

 

General Tasks 

  • Coordinate and schedule all project meetings, ensuring all appropriate project stakeholders are included. 

  • Record notes and action items during project status meetings and disseminate the notes to appropriate project stakeholders. 

 

 

Qualifications 

  • 5 years direct or transferrable experience in project management, portfolio management, strategy development or equivalent. 

  • Experience in managing strategy and portfolio for non-profit organizations, development sectors or corporations. 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in portfolio management, international development, management, business, administration, or an equivalent or transferrable degree. 

  • Prior experience in South Asia preferred. 

  • Experience with MS Office Tools.
