Position Summary

The Director of Workforce Development provides strategic leadership and daily management of all workforce development programming and outcomes. This includes overseeing job readiness instruction, employer partnerships, participant retention, and employment placement. The Director ensures alignment across internal departments, collaborates on cross-functional projects, and supports data-driven decision-making to drive economic mobility and career pathways for participants.

The Director directly supervises the Associate Director of Workforce Development and the Manager of Workforce Development and works closely with both on employer partnerships, sector strategy, and team management. This position reports to the Vice President of Workforce Development.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Staff Supervision

  • Supervise a team of 6 and provide direct supervision to the Associate Director of Workforce Development and the Manager of Workforce Development.
  • Lead implementation of programming changes, policy updates, and workflow improvements across the workforce team.
  • Monitor workforce metrics, including employment placements, employer engagement, retention, and job quality.
  • Collaborate with the Education & Training team to ensure unified and accurate data reporting across departments.
  • Maintain and regularly update Workforce Development departmental procedures, onboarding documents, and internal operational resources.

 

Program Oversight and Curriculum Management

  • Oversee the delivery of employment readiness classes and workshops, ensuring facilitation quality and curriculum relevance to current job market needs.
  • Monitor and audit class facilitation, evaluate staff performance, and ensure regular updates to curriculum materials.
  • Ensure effective workflows and internal systems to support strong job readiness instruction and participant engagement.

Employer Engagement and Job Placement

  • Lead strategy for building and sustaining employer partnerships across key job sectors
  • Foster relationships with employers focused on job quality, long-term career growth, and advancement opportunities for participants.
  • Oversee job placement efforts to ensure participants’ transition into stable, high-quality employment aligned with training and career goals.
  • Maintain regular communication with employer partners to monitor performance and satisfaction, identify opportunities, and support long-term retention.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure wraparound support for participants pursuing employment.

Participant Retention and Alumni Engagement

  • Lead retention programming for employed graduates, including outreach during the 0–6 and 6–12 month periods after job placement.
  • Monitor graduate outcomes and maintain long-term engagement through alumni services.
  • Support the development of graduate success stories and involvement in events, panels, or donor engagements.
  • Assist with the planning and execution of two major events annually as well as mock interviews monthly.

Administrative Oversight

  • Oversee hiring processes for Workforce Development staff, including job description creation, application screening, and coordination with HR on interviews and onboarding.
  • Lead implementation of new workflows, protocols, and internal systems as needed to maintain high-quality, responsive programming.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

  • 5 years of experience in workforce development leadership, with a proven record of managing employment programs, industry partnerships, and team performance.
  • 4 years of staff management experience, including supervision, hiring, and professional development.
  • Strong understanding of sector-based employment strategies and career pathways for job seekers facing barriers.
  • Demonstrated experience in employer engagement, labor market analysis, and workforce systems design.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Experience representing departmental outcomes and achievements in senior leadership meetings and external settings.
  • Proficiency in using data and outcomes to evaluate program impact and guide strategic planning.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
