As our global operations continue to grow and evolve, we are looking to add a Managing Director, Systems Engineering in the Toronto, Ontario Canada region. The Managing Director of Systems Engineering is responsible for managing the group that handles the design and successful deployment of ITS Systems proposed to Clever Devices customers. Additional responsibilities of the group include proposal support (technical review of the RFP, system architecture & design, and detailed system description).
Primary Responsibilities:
- Plans, Supervises, and delegates daily activities of the department
- Monitors activities to ensure on-time accurate delivery of services
- Manages resources both with respect to personnel development and resource planning for projects and proposal support
- Manages staff selection, growth and retention
- Provides training and mentoring to new engineers on processes and products
- Leads the efforts to create tools, process and procedures to improve the overall system deployment efficiency
- Manages overall technology and system level quality assurance
- Manages scheduling of systems engineers against project calendar
- Works with managing director of product management and vice president software development for project deployment requirements, especially as they relate to system design integrated with Clever Devices products
- Works closely with other departmental managers for success of Clever Devices
- Serves as senior technical resource on system troubleshooting, issue identification and resolution coordination
- Conducts project reviews with the team, joint activity with the Program Managers
- Assesses, and communicates departmental project priorities
- Provides regular reports on department activities to Vice President of Deployment
Skills Required:
- 15+ years experience in a technical or engineering environment which involves hardware, software, data and communications technologies.
- 5+ years in a leadership role in a technical or engineering environment
- 5+ years system test experience
- Must have demonstrated history of system design and engineering for the successful deployment of large projects
- Must possess the ability to articulate complex system design concepts and solutions to non-engineering personnel in a sales environment.
- Must be able to interpret Transit ITS Request for Proposal (RFP) documents and provide the design and descriptions of technically compliant solutions.
- Must be able to evaluate requirements on multiple projects, create comprehensive solutions and establish priorities that provide the best balanced solution
- Must be able to work cooperatively with Senior Management, Sales, Project Management, Product Management and Software Development / QA to insure timely and successful deployments
- Hardware design experience would be an asset
- Familiarity with Windows GUI standards
- Ability to retrieve information from customers, apply this information to our products, and influence whether the products need to change or the customer requirements need to change

- Strong software skills, including MS Office Suite,and ability to learn new software programs such as JIRA, Team City, Axapta, D365, etc.

- B.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field, or equivalent industry related experience
