VIRGINIA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY (VWU) invites applications for a Lecturer in Recreational Therapy in the Department of Sport and Recreation Professions, beginning in spring 2026 or fall 2026. A master’s degree in Recreation, Leisure Studies, or a closely related field is required. Candidates must hold the Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) credential and ideally bring field experience that provides valuable real-world context for students.
The Department’s two majors—Recreational Therapy and Sport and Recreation Management—are accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Parks, Recreation, Tourism and Related Professions (COAPRT). We are seeking an enthusiastic and collaborative educator to teach courses and provide direction within the Recreational Therapy major while contributing to the department’s core curriculum.
The teaching load is four, four-credit courses per semester. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching, academic advising, and student engagement, as well as a passion for service consistent with the student-focused mission of our Department and University. This position’s area of academic and professional focus is in Recreational Therapy, with a demonstrated interest in partnerships, leadership, and program provision. Educational offerings within the Recreational Therapy major are supported by a long-standing tradition of collaboration with local agencies, providing rich opportunities for internships and experiential learning. Faculty also have the option to pursue their interests through January Term, summer sessions, and online programs. The Department of Sport and Recreation Professions enjoys strong administrative support and is one of the largest departments on campus.
