We're currently seeking a passionate and skilled Senior Cost Accountant to join our team and contribute to our mission of delivering high-quality, engineered solutions to our customers worldwide. In this role you will be responsible for leading and managing all aspects of cost accounting in a dynamic, privately held manufacturing company. This is a hands-on role responsible for developing, maintaining, and analyzing standard costs, inventory valuation, and cost variances across multiple product lines and sites.


This role is ideal for a candidate looking to take ownership of the cost accounting function with a potential to grow into a Cost Accounting Manager role.


Responsibilities:


Standard Costing & Product Costing

  • Maintain standard costs for raw materials, labor, and overhead for all product lines.
  • Analyze bills of materials (BOMs), routings, and production workflows to ensure accuracy and alignment with actual operations.
  • Update and validate cost models to reflect changes in input costs, labor rates, or operational efficiencies.

Variance Analysis & Reporting

  • Perform detailed analysis of cost variances including purchase price variance (PPV), labor efficiency, and overhead absorption.
  • Provide root cause analysis and partner with operations and supply chain to resolve discrepancies and improve performance.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly cost reports for leadership.

Inventory Accounting & Controls

  • Ensure accurate valuation of raw materials, WIP, and finished goods inventories.
  • Support physical inventory counts, cycle counts, and inventory reconciliations.
  • Assist in setting inventory reserves and improving inventory control processes.
  • Track slow moving and obsolete inventory.

Operational & Cross-Functional Support

  • Collaborate with production, supply chain, and engineering teams to understand cost drivers and support continuous improvement efforts.
  • Participate in capital project evaluations, product profitability analysis, and cost-reduction initiatives.
  • Serve as the finance lead for cost-related ERP configuration and reporting improvements.

Process Improvement & Future Team Leadership

  • Standardize and document costing processes and controls across facilities.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to enhance the accuracy, efficiency, and transparency of cost data.
  • Prepare to lead and mentor future cost accountant as the department grows.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field. MBA or relevant certification (e.g., CPA, CMA) a plus.
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of standard costing, cost variance analysis, and inventory accounting Advanced Excel skills are essential, experience with ERP systems and business intelligence tools. Plex ERP experience and Microsoft Power BI a plus.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong ability to analyze cost data and provide actionable insights.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present costing information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Problem-Solving: Proven track record of identifying issues and implementing effective solutions.
  • Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and attention to detail in all aspects of work.

This position is at our East Hanover, NJ location.


Pay Range: $115k-$130k
