About the Department
Position Duties
- Determines the needs of veterans and their families through effective evaluation methods; provides applicable information and guidance on available programs and services; refers to appropriate in-house staff or other agencies as applicable.
- Interprets basic state and federal benefits eligibility requirements to distinguish which benefits veterans and their families may be qualified for; discusses and assists with different options; researches, applies, and finalizes all state benefits submissions; accesses state database for burial and/or recent returnees; assists with burial benefits and prepares burial benefits/documents; supports veterans with enrollment in VA healthcare; requests federal and state home loan certificates.
- Maintains confidential veteran information to ensure all records and information are accurately entered.
- Performs general clerical support duties applying expertise in administrative and clerical procedures; sets up and maintains files and file room; prepares and sends out correspondence and documents to veterans and their families; inventories office forms, brochures, flags, and flag holders and orders refills as necessary; answers and routes calls using multi-line telephone console.
- Performs other related duties as required or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience or training in an office setting.
- Appointment will be conditional upon successful completion of a criminal background check.
- Must have valid driver’s license, an acceptable driving record, and access to private transportation for work-related duties.
- Must possess and maintain personal automobile insurance in the amount of $100,000/$300,000.
Other Qualifications
- One (1) year of paid or volunteer experience in an agency serving veterans or individuals with physical or developmental disabilities or mental health or substance use issues.
- One (1) year of paid experience working in an office setting.
- Keyboarding skills of 45 wpm.
