Summary: 


The EHS (Environmental, Health, and Safety) Specialist will support our EHS team and Operations line management to reduce risk at production facilities to people and product. This role is also the responsible party for managing environmental compliance and Workers Compensation cases in coordination with stakeholders.   


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supports Operations line management in on-site risk reduction efforts in coordination with stakeholders. 
  • Supports management and provides professional coaching and review of incident investigations and corrective actions. 
  • Evaluates work place risks in order to proper identify and mitigate the risk to personnel and the company. 
  • Supports management in the use of the Incident Management System (Velocity EHS software).  
  • Uses EHS data to guide Line management decisions regarding risk reduction and work methods.  
  • Performs/Oversees EHS inspections of manufacturing locations. Documents and reports finding, assigns appropriate corrective and preventative actions to appropriate parties.   
  • Be the primary coordinator for worker compensation claims, Return-to-work, and restricted duty cases.  
  • Be a resource for on-site Safety Committee to build organizational strength. 
  • Organize and schedule medical appointments in coordination with production staff for workers compensation claims. 
  • Oversee individual workers’ compensation cases to ensure injured employees return to work in a timely manner to mitigate costs associated with personal injuries in coordination with Operations line management. 
  • Assist with onboarding tasks for new hires as part of a team for new hire orientation, safety related training, tracking of qualifications and other administrative duties. 
  • Coordinate with Maintenance, Production, and EHS staff members to ensure on time and accurate reporting of Environmental requirements.  
  • Coordinate with Environmental contractors as needed for reporting and permitting processes.   
  • Assist in the preparation of regularly scheduled EHS reports. 
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by management. 
  • Ability to travel regionally as business needs require.   


Essential Skills and Experience: 

  • Demonstrated ability to work cross functionally to gain desired results.  
  • Ability to work with sensitive personal information with discretion necessary.   
  • Experience in Root cause analysis tools such as but not limited to: TapRoot, 5 why, Fishbone, FMEA, Fault Tree analysis, or other.  
  • Excellent communication skills to work with various individuals inside and outside the organization. 
  • Act as mentor/coach, as well as technical expert and drive line managers to true root causes of incidents, ensuring transparency during investigations, and trending review.  
  • Planning and organization: an ability to plan and manage multiple projects as well as keep documents and files organized. 
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and timeliness on a consistent basis. 
  • Experience implementing workplace ergonomic programs preferred.  
  • Computer proficiency: Microsoft Office products - Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint. 
  • Experience with OSHA recordkeeping and basic medical terminology preferred.   
  • Basic understanding of managed care and workers compensation claims processing procedures.   


Education and/or Experience:      

  • Bachelors degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environment Science, or a related field preferred. 
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar EHS role or equivalent combination of education, skills, experience, or certification considered.  
  • Training in medical terminology or anatomy (nursing, healthcare administration, etc.)  
  • Working knowledge of Workers Compensation highly preferred.  


Supervisory Responsibilities:                       

  • This job has no supervisory responsibilities. 


Additional Requirements:

  • Company sponsored continuing education may be required. 
  • Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.
