POSITION SUMMARY

DEFINITION

This position ensures a consistently high level of cleanliness, environmental hygiene, and aesthetic standards throughout the facility for patients, visitors, and staff. The supervisor provides leadership to EVS personnel, ensures compliance with hospital policies and regulatory requirements, and collaborates with department leaders to support safe, sanitary, and efficient operations.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS

This single position class assists the Environmental Services (EVS) Manager with shift supervisory responsibility for housekeeping activities and assists the Manager and Director of Environmental Services in the overall management of the department.

 POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

 Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way would be:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent required 
  • Coursework or certification in Environmental Services Management preferred 
  • Sufficient previous experience in housekeeping functions.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
  • Previous supervisory experience required. 
  • Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and perform repetitive tasks effectively.
  • Compliance with COVID-19 vaccination requirements per hospital policy.

Licensure/Certification

Certification in Environmental Services Management preferred 

KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES

 Knowledge of and Ability to:

  • Supervise and manage housekeeping and floor care staff, ensuring compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and applicable federal/state regulations.
  • Oversee and participate in light and heavy housekeeping, laundry, and general cleaning duties across multiple shifts.
  • Provide daily oversight of shift operations and assign duties to ensure timely and thorough completion of cleaning and maintenance tasks.
  • Lead staff training, in-services, and quality control initiatives; ensure completion of department projects and performance goals.
  • Maintain records related to departmental income, expenditures, supplies, personnel, and equipment.
  • Serve as a liaison between building occupants, administrators, and EVS management to ensure communication and service standards are maintained.
  • Enforce safety protocols, including proper use of PPE and safe handling of cleaning agents and equipment.
  • Monitor attendance, punctuality, and work performance; address deficiencies promptly and professionally.
  • Foster a positive and courteous work environment, ensuring respectful interactions with all staff, patients, and visitors.
  • Ability to lift and/or carry up to 50 lbs., push/pull carts up to 50 lbs., and stand, walk, bend, and reach for extended periods.
  • Ability to work safely around cleaning chemicals and near food preparation areas as needed.
  • Residency within the service area preferred.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
