Putnam Avenue Upper School Community:

The Putnam Avenue Upper School is an innovative public middle school in the Cambridge Public Schools. We are looking for a dynamic, committed educator with solid content and pedagogical knowledge, solid classroom management skills, a deep commitment to social justice, and experience working in urban schools.

The Opportunity:

Putnam Avenue Upper School is seeking to hire an Extended Term Substitute Literacy Interventionist. 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Possess deep literacy content knowledge and instructional pedagogy, and stay current on best practices and research 
  • Partner with Literacy Coach and grade level teachers to determine literacy intervention goals, plans, groups, and schedules.
  • Partner with Literacy Coach to manage and organize school-wide and intervention data.
  • Provide Tier 2 and Tier 3 literacy intervention to selected students following MTSS guidance and processes for assessment, planning, communication, and progress monitoring. 
  • Actively participate in and support school-based and district-facilitated professional learning
  • Partner with families to include them in each student’s learning and development, guided by a profound understanding of the importance of this connection.
  • Empower a diverse group of learners via compassionate, research-based, culturally sustaining literacy instruction, guided by district processes and Literacy Coach recommendations and feedback.
  • Continuously engage, both individually and with fellow educators, in ongoing learning and reflection related to culturally responsive and sustaining pedagogy, as well as continuous learning and growth in literacy and intervention.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Your Skill Set: 

As the incoming Literacy Interventionist, you will possess many, though perhaps not all, of the following characteristics and qualifications:

  • An unwavering belief in all students, along with a strong desire to always learn, grow, and improve
  • Five or more years of proven effective literacy teaching experience 
  • Deep knowledge of research-based best practices related to literacy assessment and instruction
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required; Master’s in Education strongly preferred.
  • Required Massachusetts Teacher Certification/Licensure in English Language Arts and/or Reading
  • Reading Specialist degree and/or other relevant coursework (OG, LETRS, etc.)
  • Experience using data and a variety of skills-based assessments to determine intervention groups and to inform instruction.
