4th Grade Instructional Assistant en Forest Park School District 91

POSITION GOAL:     To support instructional personnel in the attainment and understanding of the teaching objectives by working with individual students or small groups.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

• Valid Illinois PEL Paraprofessional License and registered in Region 06 

• Previous work with children is preferable 

• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable

PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS:

• Certificate of good health signed by a licensed physician 

• Able to utilize resources from a variety of computer programs and other work units 

• Must be able to communicate verbally and through email 

• Bending, carrying, climbing must be able to travel between job sites, lifting, pushing, pulling, reaching, sitting, standing, and walking. Must be able to occasionally lift, move, or push items of 50 lbs. such as assisting children or moving/rearranging furniture 

• Generally, requires 25% sitting, 25% walking, and 50% standing

1. ?Works under the supervision and direction of the classroom teacher while in the performance of his/her duties.

2. Does not divulge any personal information concerning any student except to the classroom teacher to whom assigned or to the administrator of the school.

3. Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.

4. Operates and cares for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.

5. Distributes and collects workbooks, papers, and other materials for instructional purposes.

6. Assists with such large group activities as drill work, reading aloud, and storytelling.

7. Engage and monitor students during playtime

8. Checks notebooks, corrects papers, and supervises testing and make-up work as assigned by the teacher.

9. Serves as a source of information and helps the substitute teacher in his/her particular classroom.

10. Participates in in-service training programs, as approved.

11. Participates in student conferences and staffings with parents, staff and administrators when appropriate.

12. Maintains the degree of control and discipline which would be maintained by and consistent with the teacher’s disciplinary procedures.
    
    
    
    Performs other duties that may be assigned by the building principal. Salary starting at $28,000 and based on experience.
