POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for the processing of all nest tapes received from the various in-house and outsourced lofting groups.  Check to ensure they meet Company production process requirements.  Coordinate lofting with panel line production to decide panels to be built with weld gaps included.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING: Because Eastern Shipbuilding is continually growing to meet the needs of our customers, the essential duties and responsibilities may be different than described.

• Regular attendance at work and the ability to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays.
• Coordinate with production planning to meet burn schedule requirements.
• Develop construction jigs and temporary structures to ensure and maintain dimensional and geometrical accuracy of unit blocks.
• Order plates/structures for initial and in-process hull construction.
• Verify measurements of panels during panel line fabrication.
• Verify all critical alignments during unit construction and all critical alignments during block erection.
• Communicate with Production and Engineering regularly to ensure all parties are aware of any changes and/or potential issues.
• Be available to production to answer any questions and troubleshoot any problems that may arise pertaining to dimensional control or drawing interpretation.
• Perform other duties as required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly and/or indirectly supervise employees assigned to the Field Lofting and Accuracy Control Dept. Responsibilities may include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work. Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be required.

REQUIREMENTS

Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Engineer, Construction, or a related field plus five to seven years lofting experience required.  One to three years supervisory experience desired.  An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.  Experience in the use of electronic and laser measuring equipment and dimensional control required. Requires knowledge of ship terminology, safety, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations. 

Skills:  Intermediate level Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Requires excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from senior management, employees, government officials, and the public. Ability to work both independently and in a team environment. Ability to multi-task and work multiple projects simultaneously.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
