ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Phi Theta Kappa is seeking a detail-oriented and organized Staff Accountant to support the Financial Services team in maintaining accurate accounting records and supporting a smooth month-end close process. This role is ideal for a professional who enjoys managing recurring financial processes, reconciling complex accounts, and ensuring timely completion of critical accounting tasks.
As a key member of the Finance Department, the Staff Accountant will work closely with the Controller and Senior Accountant to manage reconciliations, journal entries, and allocations that ensure the integrity of the organization’s financial data.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Perform account reconciliations for assigned accounts on a recurring basis.
- Assist in bank reconciliations for multiple accounts.
- Maintain fixed assets, accruals, and prepaid schedules.
- Prepare and post monthly, quarterly, and annual journal entries.
- Ensure timely and accurate processing of allocations, including utilities and maintenance costs.
- Assist in month-end and year-end close processes.
- Assist with financial reporting and audits by preparing supporting schedules and reconciliations.
- Support compliance tasks.
- Promote a customer-service mindset within the Financial Services team.
- Perform other financial services duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work.
- A minimum of 1 year of related accounting experience required. Non-profit experience preferred.
- Experience with general ledger reconciliations, allocations, and financial reporting.
- Proficiency in computerized accounting systems and Microsoft Office.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to meet recurring deadlines.
- Ability to follow established accounting procedures and collaborate with team members.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Noise: This work environment is an office-like setting with moderate noise.
- Physical Exertion: The incumbent may frequently be required to lift approximately 10 pounds and/or occasionally up to 25 pounds.
- Vision: The incumbent must possess close, midrange, distance and peripheral vision; as well as the ability to identify colors, judge distances, and adjust focus.
- Speaking/Hearing: The incumbent must be able to give and receive information through speaking and listening.
- Motor Coordination: The incumbent in this position is frequently required to: use their hands and reach with their hands and arms. The incumbent is occasionally required to: stand, walk, and stoop, kneel, crouch or bend.
