Our team plays a critical role in maintaining secure, high-performance computing environments that enable NOAA’s researchers and operational teams to deliver next-generation climate, weather, and environmental solutions for the nation.
Position Overview
RIVA Solutions is seeking a Systems Engineer IV (Backup/Storage Systems) to support the Global Systems Laboratory (GSL) at NOAA in Boulder, CO. This position is responsible for managing and enhancing the IT infrastructure supporting GSL’s Tape Library Backup System, Storage Systems, and virtual machine self-provisioning environments. The role will focus on managing the Spectra Logic/Commvault backup system, VAST Enterprise NAS, and ManageIQ while also supporting Oracle OLVM-based virtualization infrastructure and RedHat Linux environments.
This position includes technical leadership responsibilities and collaboration with the IT architecture team to design future services, mentor junior staff, and provide project management support.
Core Responsibilities
- Manage Spectra Logic/Commvault backup systems
- Administer Druva desktop/laptop backup systems and generate backup reports for GSL and ESRL customers
- Provide storage support for Enterprise NAS (VAST)
- Train other backup administrators
- Administer ManageIQ self-provisioning VM platform
- Provide backup support for Oracle OLVM virtualization infrastructure
- Install, upgrade, and manage RedHat Linux systems
- Maintain operations documentation and automated diagnostics
- Apply security strategies and configuration management (SaltStack)
- Analyze system performance and apply tuning best practices
- Participate in architecture team projects for IT service design and implementation
- Manage IT projects and deliver project management reports
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Minimum 4 years of experience as a Systems Engineer in complex Linux environments
- At least 2 years of enterprise backup system experience
- Minimum 1 year of enterprise NAS experience
- Strong scripting and automation experience
- Experience supporting users in virtual server environments, both on-prem and in the cloud
- Ability to set priorities, manage multiple tasks, and work in operational field settings
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
Salary
Up to $140,000 (based on experience)
