Position Overview 

KID Museum is seeking a Manager of Teaching & Learning to assist with the management and ongoing training of KID Museum’s Senior Maker Educators and Maker Educators. This position is responsible for helping to foster an inquiry-based, self-directed learning environment, encouraging a sense of innovation and discovery throughout KID Museum programs. 

This position reports to the Senior Director of Teaching & Learning, and is responsible for assisting in the development and assessment of the teaching skills of all education and program delivery staff: providing regular and consistent feedback and coaching, enabling staff to continuously improve the delivery of our programs and the engagement of the students and teachers we serve; and deploying resources efficiently and effectively across a variety of KID Museum programs. 

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of leadership experience, with 2-3 years of experience leading teachers in hands-on, inquiry based learning in a K-12 or informal learning setting; or a combination of education and experience. They will have experience managing a diverse group of professionals, with demonstrated success in leading a highly effective team.
Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with teacher professional development is preferred. Experience successfully coaching and supporting educators in providing a positive student experience is key. Prior experience in program delivery and a STEM/STEAM and/or maker education preferred.  

Essential Job Functions 

  • Lead and manage a team of Senior Maker Educators and Maker Educators, providing regular feedback and coaching. 
  • Maintain an internal learning management system for KID Museum staff. 
  • Assist with the oversight of the successful execution of all aspects of program experience, including program delivery, student/ teacher experience and working with the operations team to support the smooth execution of programming.  
  • Manage program staff assignments across multiple, concurrent programs including school programs, afterschool programs, and weekend and summer programs, managing educator capacity to ensure appropriate deployment and utilization of the team.
  • Work in partnership with the Program Operations Associate to ensure staffing aligns with skills as identified by the Senior Director of Teaching and Learning. 
  • Work closely with the Senior Director of Teaching and Learning to implement and refine observation and training strategies for all education staff. 
    • With the Director of Programs and Senior Director of Teaching and Learning, continue to refine an observation tool that aligns with KID Museum vision and goals.
    • Assist with ongoing observation and feedback cycle of all educators in service of maintaining a focus on quality standards and delivery. 
  • Work closely with the Director of Programs and Senior Director of Teaching and Learning to ensure alignment between program design and facilitation, and contribute to developing the overall program strategy and delivery approach. 
  • Participate in the facilitation of programs (~30% of total capacity).
  • Works occasional Sunday hours (1-2 times per month) to support the observation and training of weekend educators.
  • Serve as a leader, modeling the core values of KID - curiosity, creativity, collaboration, and compassion. 
  • Successfully complete other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Keen understanding of maker education, learning pedagogies, and the maker movement. 
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally, whether online, in person, or in front of large audiences of educators. 
  • Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and problem solving skills. 
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize, evaluate and present large quantities of information and data with an equity lens. 
  • Excellent time management, organizational, and follow-up skills. 
  • Adaptable, flexible, patient, and able to work with little outside direction. 
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and communicate cross-functionally, internally among teams and externally. 
  • Able to lead the work of student learning, creating a culture and system of strong teaching and support that ensures all students are engaged in meaningful, stimulating learning. 
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment – a strong team player with exceptional interpersonal skills will thrive in this environment. 
  • Be a self-starter with strong attention to detail, and proven experience managing multiple priorities. 
  • Willingness to iterate, get things done, play with tools and materials, and model the maker mindset. 
  • Able to perform with a high degree of professionalism. 
  • Available to attend occasional evening and weekend events and programs.
