RPU, a division of the City of Rochester, MN, is the largest municipal utility in the State of Minnesota.  RPU serves over 61,000 electric customers and 42,000 water customers in a 60 square mile service area and has revenues nearing $161 million annually.

Nature of Work
This position works closely with fellow IS team members to provide information services to the organization. Responsibilities include help desk service; hardware and software installation, maintenance, and support for workstations, servers, mobile devices; participation in the design, implementation, and on-going support of IT solutions. Essential to the success of this position and the team, are excellent technical and analytical skills, great inter-personal communication, as well as the willingness and ability to learn continuously.

Pay: The 2025 starting salary of $82,338 to $96,868 per year, depending on qualifications, with advancement to $121,086.

The City of Rochester will not sponsor or transfer visas for this position including F1 OPT STEM.

Position Duties

*Analyze, Design, Test, Implement and Maintain IT Systems

  • Install and maintain operating and application software.
  • Ensure effective system integration between multiple platforms.
  • Ensure software is current release and operating at peak performance.
  • Provide recommendations for software and equipment upgrades to ensure adequate capacity and throughput.
  • Work with outside vendors as needed and when appropriate.
*Security
  • Ensure that systems are secure from both internal and external threats as well as unauthorized access and use.
  • Deploy and maintain systems that provide physical and cyber security for RPU employees and IT systems.
  • Monitor and ensure adherence to security mandates in the industry.
*Disaster Recovery
  • Assist the Systems Administrators in deploying and maintaining an effective backup and recovery strategy.
  • Ensure precise documentation of the recovery processes and procedures.
  • Continually test, evaluate and adjust recovery plans as business continuance requires.
*Provide Quality of Service to RPU Internal Customers
  • Provide technical assistance to personnel throughout the organization.
  • Troubleshoot and implement solutions to technical processing problems.
  • Ensure peak performance and utilization of network resources through tuning and upgrades when appropriate.
New Technologies
  • Stay abreast of changes in the network technology industry.
  • Assist in positioning RPU to effectively utilize state of the art technology for utilities.
  • Provide recommendations for the implementation of new technology.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

*ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience
A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Information Technology or closely related field from an accredited four-year college or university AND three (3) years of work experience performing systems administration and software application development duties;
OR
An Associate's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Information Technology or closely related field from an accredited two-year program AND five (5) years of work experience performing systems administration and software application development duties.

Licenses and/or Certifications
Valid Driver's License

Desirable Qualifications
Microsoft, VMware, Cisco, or related technology certification desired.
