Under the general direction of the Director of Career & Calling this position provides career advising to students and alumni, facilitate and manage career readiness programs including but not limited to Saints Promise and Career Champion, and supports the development of experiential education by building direct faculty and employer relationships, offering student career readiness workshops and faculty training. The Internship Navigator for the College of Business, Engineering and Technology (CBET) is responsible for the development of internships in collaboration with faculty for all students seeking that experience within CBET. The Internship Navigator CBET is responsible for recruiting students to complete an internship, providing administrative, advising, and educational support & resources to stakeholders involved in internships and working with organizations to create academically rich internships.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

NOTE: This job may be completed partly remote at direction of the Director, Career & Calling. Must have access to quiet workspace free of distractions for remote work.
Career Advising & Internship Development
- Meet with students to provide career advice that includes, but not limited to vocation/exploration, self-assessments, job search process, professional branding, career competencies and other career readiness skills, internship process, resume writing, mock interviews.
- Design and facilitate career readiness workshops including but not limited to Handshake use, resume writing, Career Launch, vocation, LinkedIn, and interview prep each semester with post-event assessments to be reported to Director.
- Assist faculty and departments in recruiting students for internships.
- Develop internship sites and promote and facilitate internship placement for students.
- Develop procedure with Internship Navigator of CASE/SHAH to track all internship participation through the Handshake database; work with faculty internship advisors to collect all internship information and tracking documents.
- Attend department meetings and advisory board meetings to develop relationships between faculty and the Center for Career & Calling; develop and provide internship guides to faculty, students, and employers.
- Actively build relationships with employers by attending local business association meetings and events, providing outreach to our services, and seeking to establish new partnerships between employers and the Center for Career & Calling.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employers seeking interns within the College of Business, Engineering and Technology (CBET).
- Support employers with Handshake adoption, job postings, advertisements, and recruiting efforts.
- Research potential employers, making initial or follow-up contacts, maintaining and developing community relationships through incoming calls/visits with the primary responsibility of maintaining an updated employer database of contacts.
- Support Program Coordinator with planning and hosting all Job & Internship fairs.
- Provide back up support for non-BUS/ENG/ED students when the Career Coach – CAS is out of the office.
- Work with BUS/ENG/ED faculty and external organizations to develop research internships and embed career readiness into class curriculum.
- Coordinate guest speakers, information sessions, networking socials, mock interview and resume prep sessions, vocation exploration, develop and deliver presentations to classes, and student groups on a regular basis on career-related topics.
- Through one-on-one appointments, provide direction and assistance to students in outlining effective steps toward achieving their professional and educational goals as it relates to using Handshake, personality assessments, work study positions, internships, scholarships, and job search efforts.
- Represent the Center for Career & Calling at on and off-campus events, including admissions events, orientations, committees. Some will fall on weekends.
- Serve as the primary contact for employers, faculty and academic department staff for career advising and internships.
- Provide outreach to students through presence in student organizations, ASSMU, club associations, class presentations, email, and social media including attending meetings, creating videos and online content, attending campus events, etc.
Career Readiness Program Management
- Serve as the primary contact for students, faculty and staff for career readiness programs that include, but not limited to Saints Promise and Career Champions programs.
- Track students, faculty, and staff progress in career readiness programs. Notify COR100 faculty of Saints Promise Year 1 tasks completion by students.
- Design and implement high-touch check-in/progress communication plans to support participants' successful completion of career readiness programs.
- Collect assessment data from participants and stakeholders about learning outcomes, impacts, and potential program improvements.
- Create and update procedures for career readiness programs managed.
- Collaborate with campus departments in promoting the programs and supporting the Director in institutionalizing the programs.
- Notify the registrar of Saints Promise program status annually.
- Provide outreach to students through presence in student organizations, ASSMU, class presentations, email, and social media.
Other Functions
- Attend webinars related to career services and internships.
- Develop and present the best practices of Saint Martin’s University at conferences (i.e., NACE and MPACE).
- Other duties as assigned by Director.
COMPETENCIES
- Knowledge of career readiness competencies, professionalism practices, and industry trends.
- Knowledge of internship process and Washington State industries related to majors within the College of Business Engineering and Technology (CBET)
- Demonstrated ability to communicate professionally and effectively in writing.
- Skilled in effectively communicating verbally with constituents (students, faculty, staff, employers, and colleagues) in person and over the phone.
- Skilled in preparing and delivering presentations to classes and workshop participants.
- Ability to gain and apply knowledge of all functions associated with the routine operating of the database Handshake to include changes to student and employer records, resumes, referrals to jobs and report generation.
- Ability to manage and assess ongoing programs using the databases and learning management systems (Moodle, Handshake, Excel, MS 365).
- Ability to always maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to demonstrate a high level of professional conduct and appearance representative of the business community.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently with accurate attention to detail.
- Proficient with social media technologies for outreach to students, alumni, and employers.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including evening and weekend hours.
- Ability to effectively work in a remote environment.
- Ability to work well with others and function in a team environment.
- Must be supportive of Catholic Benedictine philosophy of education.
REQUIREMENTS AND/OR CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred.
- 2-3 years of experience in higher education/student services and/or employer outreach.
- Previous project management or event planning experience.
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in MS 365 Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Ability to learn and manage the internship database (Handshake).
- Successfully pass a criminal background check.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a standard office environment and remotely. Physical demands include:
- Moves objects (less than 20 pounds) long distances (more than 20 feet).
- Ability to be mobile campus wide for appropriate business needs.
- Operates a variety of standard office equipment requiring continuous or repetitive arm-hand movements.
- Reading, writing, speaking, hearing, standing, bending, sitting.
